Homepod pausing music

Weird, I just told my HomePod to play one song - and it kept playing another song by that artist before I told it to be quiet.

Nope, "on repeat" didn't help.

Any resolution to your query? My HomePod worked fine until just recently. Purchased as soon as they came out. Just started playing 20 seconds of songs then stops.

The same thing is happening to me. If you let it go it plays for about 3 seconds then stops for about 5 to 10 minutes then it does the same thing all over again.

Unfortunately it does not improve when I run iTunes exclusively. So I think the problem is something else. Thanks.

I gave up. I got a Bose. It’s playing great sound. And iTunes works on it. Siri is useless right now. So I’d take your HomePod back. Apple does not have this down yet. Maybe some day.

Hello and thank you for your responses. On a different thread, I heard an interesting response, which I’m trying now. He said to go to the Home app, click the little arrow in the Upper left corner, go to ”allow speaker access”, and choose “anyone“ or “only people sharing this home” rather than “everyone”. He said it may not be an issue of my network providers bandwidth, but more the way my router is set up. Anyway, I’m trying it now, but haven’t been trying it for long enough to be sure; sometimes got up to 45 minutes or an hour of playing without the problem occurring.

Sorry to say that's probably not going to work. My Apple Home App is set up as suggested "Anyone On the Same Network" and we still are having this pausing-stopping problem.

Also, Siri is acting up terribly now. Lydia, the Apple Senior Advisor I am working with has escalated our problem to the engineering department. I recommend everyone call and speak to a senior advisor and direct them to our thread.

See the Change AirPlay settings section of Change settings for HomePod - Apple Support and see if using Everyone and Require Password works better for you. It might mean half the amount of traffic over the Wi-Fi network, which in turn might be enough to stop the drop out.

Mine too has always been in the “anyone in the same network” setting and yet it frequently stop playing music. And tonight out of the blue I can’t even airplay from my Apple TV!

I’ve scheduled a call tomorrow with a senior advisor at Apple support to send them log/analytics files, and hopefully these will help them fix the problem.

Thanks, turingtest2. I have tried several different settings, including “everyone”. It is still dropping out occasionally. In fact now, it Seems to be skipping tracks as well. Do you think it matters that I am playing a playlist that is not downloaded to my iPhone? As a subscriber to Apple Music, I would want to be able to do this.

If you're using AirPlay then yes, in fact that is possibly the worst case scenario. Data has to come to your iPhone over the air, then back to your router, and on to the HomePod, assuming peer-to-peer isn't working, and if it is the iPhone probably has to switch between two networks. See if Remote control for HomePod, not using AirPlay helps you avoid using AirPlay. You can get remote control of the HomePod from the Control Centre too.
