My 2016 Macbook Pro has a shutdown countdown( i can cancel though) that pops up whenever it has been sleeping and i open the cover to use it. How do I stop this from happening?

Hi Guy,
The latest operating system has an energy saver option through System Preferences.
Go to System Preferences > Click on Schedule Button located on the bottom right side > use the checkboxes to manually set your wake, sleep setting.
The countdown is the cause of your energy saving settings of your computer.

I've gone into energy star schedule, but it does not look like it's enabled. Any ideas?

Try holding down the option key when selecting shut down from Apple Menu.
