My late 2016 MacBook Pro TBP,
is stuck in a boot up loop “a critical software update is required for your Mac. “
this started appearing after I tried to update he latest macOS Sierra (think 11.3.4)
I am unable to use, checked wifi , checked dishes utility for any repairs and damages ... all fine
Help!

SOLUTION
This worked for me guys hopefully it will work for you too!
On the page where it requests you to choose and connect to a network, there should be an option on the bottom left of the screen which says “other network options”.
Click on that and choose the “my computer doesn’t connect to the internet option”
2 Mins later, the installation began.

I had this same exact issue... after days of troubleshooting with Apple I sent it in... I just got it back today- they replaced the logic board and the touchbar sensor... works like a charm again... It can't be "fixed"... hopefully you have AppleCare... it was covered fully.
Ya right ... disk utility ...
saw some threads which suggests embedded OS crash ( touch bar light weight OS crash / missing files ) ,
but not sure how to resolve ...
meanwhile booted through the safe mode and completed the Mac OS update but still the same critical update error

I'm interested in the dishes utility I don't seem to have one, and it sounds like something my life has been missing
or are you referring to your wife.
Through the disk utilities I tried to update macOS which it did ... and now the error has changed from network update to “ an error encountered “ + now I am not able to login to the safe mode

Did every **** thing , looks like replacing the logic board is the only solution , mine is still with the service centre though
Have you tried restarting/resetting the router?
