Failed macOS Installer

Hi all,

Currently on 10.13.3 on my rMBP. I have received an update and after installing it, the machine displayed some errors and was no longer bootable. I have managed to narrow down the issue to a faulty installer as I can boot just fine if I select "Macintosh HD" as the boot target instead of installer. The error message that I get with the installer is "An error occurred while loading the installer resources.".

My question is how do I "reset" or remove the installer so that I can restart the process?

Thanks!

Here's what worked for me:

1. Load in Safe mode (hold Shift while booting)

2. Open App Store, choose install update

3. The install will probably fail. Instead of showing an error message it will show a log.

4. Do not click "Restart", choose "Startup Disk..." from the Menu

5. The system will boot as usual, not updated

Here’s what helped me to actually install the update (I think System Integrity Protection should be disabled for steps 1-2 to work):

1. sudo rm -Rf /macOS\ Install\ Data

2. sudo systemsetup -setstartupdisk /System/Library/CoreServices

3. sudo rm -Rf /Library/Updates/*

4. Changing system language from English to Russian and rebooting

5. Downloading and installing the update as usual (using App Store)

Step 4 was not rational in any way but has a chance of being relevant.
