MacBook Pro Crashes after Update 10.13.4

I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13 Inch, Late 2013) that I just updated with software version 10.13.4. on March 31st, 2018. Immediately after installing the update, when the mac is put to sleep by closing the lid, the computer will crash. Each time I open the lid to wake the computer, the keyboard will light but the screen remains black indefinitely. Then I will hold the power button to turn it off, wait 30 seconds, and power up again. After a short reboot, the computer will start like it is still trying to complete the previous update with the apple logo and white progress bar. Oddly enough, the fix that I am using is to click on the manual "Sleep" button on the apple menu of the mac. When I do this, the computer will go to sleep and wake as normal. Something goes wrong when the lid is closed as the method to put it to sleep.

I seem to have the same issue for my Macbook Pro Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012. Sometimes (not always) when waking (having previously closed the lid to sleep), the cursor is visible and can be moved with the trackpad but the rest of the screen remains black. Pressing any key make a beep sound but doesn't seem to do anything. Holding the power button (to shutdown) seems to be the only way out.

I only noticed this in the past week (presumably after the 10.13.4 update).

Assuming not everyone has this issue (or there would be more attention on fixing it)

it seems it could be third party related.

The third-party apps we have in common are :

1Pass

Atom

Chrome

Creative Cloud

Firefox

Evernote

Skype

XCode

Also notable that it is not one type of hardware having the issue. I have 2016 MacbookPro Retina

though other hardware configs have been reported in this thread alone.

When mine was crashing, I was never able to get a dump report as it would black screen and not give a dump on reboot like other panics normally do. Otherwise would be able to see what was running when it crashed.

Any chance you were running the 1Password 7 Beta? I just downgraded back to 6.8.8 and am going to see if that increases stability.

I had definitely done several "tests" where I closed out everything to see if I still got a crash and I did. Seems like it would have to be an "always on" type of app like 1Password or Creative Cloud.

I'll see if I wake up to a crashed computer tomorrow after downgrading 1Password.

Hey Allen, Apple Community Specialist, can you actually read and address the actual problem Count_Koma is asking and not simply post a boiler template answer that has zero relevance to the actual problem at hand?? I'm experiencing the same problem and Apple support has been worthless in trying to resolve this issue. We all paid for expensive Apple products and we deserve better customer service!

Hi guys, i´m happy to see that i´m not the only one with some issues after this update, and that some of you have found the solution by downgrading.

The thing is that my Mac didn´t had the same lucky.
After some time, my Macbook Pro started to get really slow, and really hot, i did some research and i reset the SMC, than the NVRAM.

After all this, my mac now doesn´t even load up, it get stucked in the white screen whith the Apple logo for over 6 hours.

Eventualy when i get home, i will try to revert to a previous OSX version.

Same thing has been happening to me. I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014), running 10.13.4. Problem started right after I updated.

I have rested SMC, PRAM, erased startup disk and did not restore from backup. I have been in contact with engineer at Apple for several weeks. He had 48 hours of testing done at Apple and it passed all hardware tests. Still was crashing. He had a crash report done over screen share and send it to other apple engineers. They say its caused by a kernel panic, but did not specify any more than that. Then I took it to Apple again and they replaced both the logic board and the display. Still crashing. Erased startup disk again. Still crashing.

Same symptoms and attempted fixes as outlined herein this thread. What ultimately fixed my computer was a complete wipe and reinstall of the OS. In the process, Apple Genius found a corrupt partition on the hard disk from before and got rid of it. Reinstalled and restored from backup with the same apps and softwares and haven't had any problems since.
