MacBook Pro Crashes after Update 10.13.4

I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13 Inch, Late 2013) that I just updated with software version 10.13.4. on March 31st, 2018. Immediately after installing the update, when the mac is put to sleep by closing the lid, the computer will crash. Each time I open the lid to wake the computer, the keyboard will light but the screen remains black indefinitely. Then I will hold the power button to turn it off, wait 30 seconds, and power up again. After a short reboot, the computer will start like it is still trying to complete the previous update with the apple logo and white progress bar. Oddly enough, the fix that I am using is to click on the manual "Sleep" button on the apple menu of the mac. When I do this, the computer will go to sleep and wake as normal. Something goes wrong when the lid is closed as the method to put it to sleep.
