Very slow iMac

Howdy folks.

My iMac is running slow as a dog on occasions and I ran EtreCheck.

Then I tried to open the suspect suoders file in Bbedit and text edit but both were refused.

EtreCheck report attached.

Help please.

Uninstall the Trusteer Rapport software then restart your Mac to test.

http://www.trusteer.com/en/support/uninstalling-rapport-mac-os-x

That software has caused a multitude of problems for Mac users for years as noted from the results of an Apple Support Communities search here.

"Modified suoders file - The sudoers file has been modified. This is unusual and is sometimes evidence of malware." < from your report.

Download and run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac

Only takes a minute or two.

Then restart your Mac to test.

Also, there's only 4GB's of RAM installed on your iMac. You might want to consider upgrading the RAM. You can do this yourself on an iMac. RAM helps to stablize your Mac and run a little faster.

Also consider upgrading the RAM to 8-12GB or more. 4GB was plenty of RAM when you were running Snow Leopard 10.6.8, however newer versions of Mac OS really need a minimum of 8GB to run well at all. If you choose to do this only use either Crucial (buy direct) or www.macsales.com RAM as iMacs are fussy about using quality RAM and both vendors supply quality products at fair prices.
