Microphone not working on iPhone 7

When making phone calls I cannot hear the other person, and they can't hear me. My voice memos app won't let me record anything in order to test the microphone and speakers. If i take a video, there is no sound. I can get sound on previous videos though. Siri can't hear me. I took my phone to the genius bar a couple days ago, and they did a factory reset. It didn't fix the issue. He said he ran diagnostics, and only told me that I should buy a new battery. I just did apple chat, and was told I need to take it in for a hardware issues. Any other ideas? Is this going to cost me a replacement?

I have the issues too, just saw an article on idrop talking about it. It looks to be related to latest SW update messing with the HW. I took the phone in last week (05/04/2018). They ran a few tests, at first, device not supported for them to run test, then they did a network reset and it helped for the test (some type of audio test), it passed them, they said you are good, tired a couple fo calls, worked, about 5 minutes later, got a call from wife, same issues, went back and this time after multiple resets etc, everything failed. Just opened a new Genius bar ticket to have reviewed. As an FYI, you can use bluetooth and it does take calls etc. (temp. solution). It is just from the physical phone that we cannot.

I took my iPhone 7 for check up and Apple wanted me to pay 319USD to replace phone with same phone with limited 90 days warranty, so I bought a new iPhone 8 with $200 trade in (my phone is like new). Happy with new phone but it was either buy a new iPhone or learn Android. This will be my last time giving Apple a chance. Hope this phone holds up without any problems.

I was also offered the "option" of paying $349 to get my iPhone 7 fixed after the iOS 11 update broke my perfectly working phone. I have had an iPhone since the very first generation, over ten years now. I finally made the switch to Android, and now have a Samsung Galaxy S9. I LOVE the Samsung! Never thought I'd see the day that I switched from Apple, but after this latest horrible customer service experience and an expensive iPhone that was rendered obsolete, I am DONE.

After hearing that Apple has completely stopped offering to repair the damage they've caused I've been more than relieved to have made the decision to switch to the s9 as well! I really was nervous to learn android but it took me less than a day to get the hang of it! I've had mine about 3 weeks and so far I love it! Congrats on the switch! Bye bye apple!

Yeah! It's awesome! I was also really nervous - I'm a lifelong Apple user, seriously never thought I'd see the day that I would make the switch. I can't believe it took me this long to see the light... android is way better. And bonus, the employees at the store where I got the S9 did not act like self-important jerks to me when I asked questions about the product. Bye Apple!

A couple weeks ago my daughter complained about her audio not working. Today, my son’s stopped working on his too. Both have iPhone7’s and are only about 14 months old. Of course, we told them to try and figure it out themselves through the internet. When they still couldn’t get it to work I jumped in. This is ridiculous. Apple needed to get this right; and quickly.

Apple Support was unable to fix this so I went to the Genius Bar. The latest software update was made to specifically address the audio issues on the iPhone 7. Ours has already had the update and still won’t work. According to staff, Apple has issued the software fix so if the phone still isn’t working it must be a hardware issue and they are recommending a replacement. Our phones are out of warranty by two months, but yet we hadn’t paid off each phone at $1k ea. Our only recourse is to buy more phones. This is ridiculous. Apple had such a great reputation and is throwing it down the drain. No wonder why so many have already left them heading for Samsung.

Visited the Apple store about the same issue since the 11.3 update - Apple told me that they have caused the issue with the most recent updates but are not providing a remedy for any phone which is out of warranty. This really is scandalous seeing as the primary function of a phone - to make calls - has been disabled to their own admittance. Spoke to senior advisor on the phone who was very rude and essentially said that they are doing nothing to keep their loyal customers so take your business elsewhere. I've seen some articles online stating that Apple will fix the phones for free (those out of warranty) but this is completely false.

I should also note that I've had several sessions with apple support. They start well and twice have connecting me with a specialist on the phone. In the first instance, the follow up was that they were going to follow up with me after checking with apple engineers. I received no followup. So I initiated the conversation again and eventually connected with a specialist, but after being placed on hold, they either hung up or otherwise lost the connection, and I never heard back. For some reason, none of the support cases show in my profile on the apple support site, and when I enter a support ID, it doesn't come up. I simply don't have the time and energy to continue starting over with the support group. Feels very much like the insurance scene in the movie "The Incredibles."

I'm a dedicated apple user with at least 20 apple devices in my family of 4. I'm involved in a business where we buy hundreds of apple products. However, this situation is just ridiculously unjust and frustrating.

I just started having this problem today. I went to the Genius Bar and the guy said they used to fix this for free, but not any more. It’ll be $350 for a new phone. I was too ****** to think of asking, but I bet it’s for another iPhone 7, which likely would have the same problem at some point. I might rather have a galaxy that catches fire. At least Samsung admitted their problem and fixed it.
