Microphone not working on iPhone 7

When making phone calls I cannot hear the other person, and they can't hear me. My voice memos app won't let me record anything in order to test the microphone and speakers. If i take a video, there is no sound. I can get sound on previous videos though. Siri can't hear me. I took my phone to the genius bar a couple days ago, and they did a factory reset. It didn't fix the issue. He said he ran diagnostics, and only told me that I should buy a new battery. I just did apple chat, and was told I need to take it in for a hardware issues. Any other ideas? Is this going to cost me a replacement?

I have the issues too, just saw an article on idrop talking about it. It looks to be related to latest SW update messing with the HW. I took the phone in last week (05/04/2018). They ran a few tests, at first, device not supported for them to run test, then they did a network reset and it helped for the test (some type of audio test), it passed them, they said you are good, tired a couple fo calls, worked, about 5 minutes later, got a call from wife, same issues, went back and this time after multiple resets etc, everything failed. Just opened a new Genius bar ticket to have reviewed. As an FYI, you can use bluetooth and it does take calls etc. (temp. solution). It is just from the physical phone that we cannot.

My iphone has stopped working since I downloaded the new IOS12. Doesn't make and receive calls, it doesn't record audio. When i call i only can listen if using the Bluetooth, even the speaker works. the diagnosis was that the problem is the microphone. but I watch videos normally, or the audio works. What is not working is the audio capabilities. I believe the problem is the system, and the assistance tells me that I need to buy a new iphone. Mine is 1 year and 10 months old. Complete new and original! I'm desperate! I need my cell phone to work.

I've used iPhones for the past 8 years, now that I need help, do they just say I need to buy another one? It's the price I paid when I bought it. I hope Apple anwer ! I just can't buy a new one, i trust that company is gonna solv the problem, that we can see it's reaching Many devices. I'm realy desaponted

Did you or anybody here got a solution for this issue??

I know a lot of people with iphone 7/7 plus, models A1778 and A1784 with their phones presenting exactly this same defect.

Here in Brazil they are not recognizing as an Apple responsibility and are asking us to pay for a “new” iphone 7! And this is not fair. It is so clear that this is a factory defect with these models of iphone 7/7plus!

Is Apple replacing for free these models somewhere?

Please, let us know!

SINCE THE iOS 11.3 I HAVE THE SAME UNABLE GET OR MAKE CALLS .

I am dealing with this issue from may 2018 and can not accept the way that apple do not take responsibility for the damage that caused to the phone that was fine till the iOS 11.3.

At the forum's the android users make a fun - what can I say, they are right!!!

After updating to IOS 12 my iPhone 7 stopped working properly Apple blames hardware and won’t take responsibility for damage to my phone. With the previous IOS my phone was working just fine. Now, I can’t record voice messages, Siri does not work, videos are recorder with no sound and I have to carry my Bluetooth headset everywhere if I want to receive or make calls. No troubleshooting has helped with these so far. Went to apple store and the best solution what they offered is to pay 400$ for replacement phone with only 90 days of warranty whitout ability to get an apple care for it. So disappointed. I’ve been a customer apple for years but now thinking to switch to Pixel. iPhones lost the quality what they used to have. And prices for the last models are over high.

I am having the same issues in my 7 plus 256 GB since I updated to iOS 12.01. can’t hear any call, nor my voice is audible to other side, Siri is unresponsive, voice memo says can’t record, when I record a video it’s not audible. Speakers while playing music is fine. It takes 3 to 4 min to soft reboot. Every time I reset it by erasing data completely the problem gets resolved, but after 3 or 4 calls it reappears. I went to apple store, the store guy told me to replace it for Rs 32500 as it is an hardware issue and they don’t repair it. Don’t know what to do next. Need help.

Hey Guys
That is so sad i have the same problem since updating the IOS, same problems mic not working, audio not recording, cannot make voice call or any calls, not only i have this problem but also my other family members who have iphone7 and iphone Plus are getting the same problems. There is no solution except to buy a new iphone. Apple are forcing people to increase their sales which has now reached at $62 billion revenue and $14 billion quarterly profit.

But they don't want to accept their mistake which is forcing customers to abandon iphone7 to buy new iphones.

As far in our family we have three iphone7s faulty, i got one solution for this, i bought a new iphone XS max 512GB £1449 (Belfast) but as soon as i opened the box i found the LCD screen was broken already, and i had to return it.
I will also tell my other family members to buy the same phone with same specs and if they don't like they can return it, but only buy from Apple store.

I hope this will help others fix the issue.

Regards

We are having exactly the same problem. Took the phone in tonight and the snarky guy at the “genius” bar told us that it was time to buy a new phone. That he couldn’t run diagnostics on it because we “must’ve soaked it in water” never gotten wet, ever. He also accused us of replacing the screen. I’m very interested in the resolution in all of these cases!

I have the same exact issue after updating to iOS 12...my iPhone is not a phone anymore. Greyed out speaker, either party is able to hear anything during a phone call, unable to record audio with the camera or within other apps, unable to use Siri. I am only able to take phone calls through my AirPods or through bluetooth in my car. I've chatted with online customer support on two occasions, visited the Genius Bar on two occasions, and just got off the phone with a senior advisor at Apple Care. I brought up how this is a known issue that occurred in May, but was told my only options are to replace the phone out of my own pocket for $319 or get $175 credit towards a new phone.

We should not be responsible for replacing our own phones, especially since this issue occurred after an iOS update that Apple has always pushed us to do. The malfunction was out of our hands, and we were not expecting permanent damage after a simple iOS update.

Well, i don't know if my comment will help anyone here. I've visited 3 service centres and i got my answer. This problem affects a lot of IPhone 7 users. And the problem is not with the new update. It is caused by dropping the phone (even if you dropped it months ago), thats why it affects different phones at different time. The reason why we experience the above mentioned problems may be because the update heats the phone and because this audio chip is vulnurable after previous drops, it becomes broken and unusable. Each service center proposed me only one thing-> change of motherboard which is quite expensive, unfortunately. So i guess its caused by combination of the new update, phone dropping and vulnerable audio chips in IPhone 7s

same here.. I have been 3 weeks on the phone with Apple 2nd tier technicians, then went to an apple store on their recommendation ( 2 hours drive) only to get told to do a "repair swap" for £309.. or ask my provider to honour my "consumer rights" (UK) I went to EE with this advice and they literally laughed at me. Should I swap for another refurbed iPhone 7? we know all know that they're not the quality we are expecting for the price we are paying..

I am livid.

I chatted wit one of apples customer care he said:

I will be happy to help! Sorry it is giving you trouble there. When we see the speakerphone greyed out like that it is a good indication we need to get the iPhone serviced for you. This phone is still covered by AppleCare so we can get it taken care of. Do you know if you have an Apple Retail Store in your area?

We may have an Apple Authorized Service Provider. I can check for you if you would like

we need to get it serviced for you. When the option becomes greyed out like that it indicates the iPhone detected an issue with the related hardware during the update process and disabled it.

Once we receive it in our repair center it only takes about 3-5 days
