I just got a new macbook pro and transferred all my stuff to it, and the Chrome app is showing as the generic app icon. In the dock and in Finder. Here's how it looks in the dock:
How can I get it back to the regular icon? I so far haven't seen it on any other apps, just Chrome.

Alternatively try booting into Safe Mode, it does some cache clearing on startup and that may be one of the cache files it clears.

So, I solved it. Just restarted in safe mode! haha so that's that.
From your Finder Go menu > Go to Folder then copy paste:
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.finder/Cache.db
Click Go and delete that cache file.
Restart your Mac.
My computer can't find that? When I type it in it just makes a sound and takes me to the general Caches folder.
Did you copy and paste the entire path including the tilde (~) at the beginning?

That's odd it works as expected here. I asked because if I leave off the tilde I can reproduce what you are seeing. But when I enter the path to the ~/ (Home) Library it works as expected.

It appears you are in the Caches folder. It should look like this. I have no idea why yours would be any different.
