Drains battery in sleep - High Sierra / MacBook Pro Early 2013

My setup:

MacBook Pro Early 2013

High Sierra 10.13.4

FileVault On

First of all, I used all recommendations I had found on Internet regarding the Battery drain issue during sleep, including:

- clean install of the latest Mac OS (10.13.4)

- reset NVRAM, SMC

- restore to defaults "Energy saver settings"

- turn off WiFi, bluetooth

- disconnect usb and all other cables

- use only Safari (no chrome)

- turn off various services (like dropbox)

- various settings via pmset

- etc.

No major changes. In fact, I even changed the battery in the official Apple service center! It shows "Normal" now.

I read all the posts on various forums. It is my last hope to find a solution before switching to "power off only" way to use with the Mac.

Other days I tried leaving 100% charge. It doesn't matter.

Any ideas how to track the issue or what else to do?

I finally solved the problem with my MacBook Pro. I have a USB wireless mouse. If I remove the USB transmitter the computer no longer heats up in sleep mode and the battery does not drain. If the USB transmitter is left plugged in, the battery drains from 100% to 62% in overnight sleep mode and the computer is warm. This has been an issue since the 10.13.4 update.

Thx for sharing. As I mentioned before. I tried that. Does not work for me. Also, from my personal experience, the device does not always go to 0%. Often I put it in my backpack and it does not heat up, does not drain the battery. BUT every now and then it still heats up and drains the battery with the lid closed. So I cannot rely on it to keep the battery fully juiced. Just imagine, you take your laptop and put it in your sleeve or a backpack only to find out that the battery is dead before some important meeting, or the temperature of the laptop is destroying the device. Still no reliable solution for the issue.

Unfortunately this doesn't apply to me. I don't have anything connected to my MacBook Pro. Just suddenly began experiencing the battery drain in sleep mode since updating to 10.13.4, and still not fixed in 10.13.5. I really hope Apple fix this because I always used to have 100% battery in the morning out and about — since I got the laptop in 2013. Now my battery is around 35 mins drained, and I don't see why I have to leave it plugged in overnight or charge up in the morning before I go out now.

Ridiculous that a supposed 'update' to the system makes life worse than before! Apple need to get macOS working solidly again.

Hey folks, I got tired of the issue and will be trying new Mac OS Mojave. This time I will go with the Developer Beta (Important! I did not have any developer betas on my Mac OS High Sierra. So the issue is not related to beta). Mac OS Mojave is still in beta 2 at the moment, so it might be even worse, but I need this for my work. I'll let you know if it is any good. Also, general public will be able to update in the Fall. My guess is that they will be focusing their efforts on Mojave and not on High Sierra. Hope they 'll make the battery life good again for both OS.

Hi All,

I had same situation on my 15" Macbook Pro (mid 2015), 100% at mid night and hibernate until at noon, Now only 54% battery left. Also the machine temperature is higher then before upgrade, when charging, I feel the charge plug temperature is hot and the machine body is hot. So now I will turn off my mac when put it into the bag.

I think it is a bug on Mac update after upgrade to new version.

Does somebody has same problem on machine temperature?

Regards
