iPhone updated without my permission

My phone iPhone 6 and 6s updated without my permission. My automatic update was off and now my iPhone runs much slower.

I hate apple now...

I am in the exact same situation. I get frequent requests to update. Without fail, I say no. I never enter my passcode without paying attention as to why. I’m not infallible as a human, but I have never mistakenly entered my code into my phone without paying attention.

I just woke up and my iPhone had updated overnight. Something is going on. Apple has either made a mistake or is acting in a way contrary to their stated m.o. This is not a case of user error.

Ok.

Do I believe a company is conspiring to update their users phone against their wishes or do I believe the simpler explanation of a user error.

I have never defended Apple here. Just logic.

I support technology and when it’s not a user error, it’s typically cabling.

I have not seen this issue written about outside of this discussion.

The settings regarding automatic updates apply only to apps downloaded from the App Store. There is no setting to turn off automatic updates of the system software because there are no automatic updates. There is an automatic download of an update. However, there will be a pop up asking you if you want to update. So, either you okayed it by accident or someone else did.

What version of iOS did you update the phones from? How long ago did the update complete?

Because, at some time, when it asked you if you wanted to update later, you tapped OK. People often don't pay attention to such boxes, or, they think they meant something else.

But, again, what's done is done. Are you interested in resolving your issues?

The guys that say this can't happen must be trolls working for Apple. It obviously CAN happen, because it does, and also did to me. My 5s is practically a brick now while I have not agreed to or allowed any updates. It's now on 11.1, none of which I authorized. It is absolutely Apples way of forcing you out of your phone. So, new SE on the way today. We'll see how long this one runs before I jump ship from Apple.

There is a dialog you have to agree with to perform the actual upgrade. As noted, the download may be automatic and against your wishes. The actual installation of the upgrade requires your explicit permission.

There is a prompt asking for your passcode to schedule the installation for a later time. There is a link below that to defer the update. I do this every few days now. I am in full control of the update process.

Dispute this all you wish. It is the reality.

Your fantasy world is funny. Becasue you are absolutely wrong. I’d check with whoever told you that lie. Apple might want you to belive that. But I guarantee you I have NOT click anything resembling an agreement to update my phone. Yet it is. As are many others. 100% fact. You have now been educated. -you’re welcome

No one thinks you're lying. However, unless you're not human, you could be mistaken. Phones have so many alerts, it's quite easy to click things without paying complete attention and without realizing exactly what you did.

Nope. Not possible. Intentionally did not want to update and slow my phone down. I made sure I was not ever choosing to update. Believe what yowere told by Apple I guess. I mean. What would they have to gain be lying right? I’m telling you 1st hand fact.

Oops. I really did think you were human. But, if it's impossible that you have made a mistake, you have failed the Turning test.
