iPhone updated without my permission

My phone iPhone 6 and 6s updated without my permission. My automatic update was off and now my iPhone runs much slower.

I hate apple now...

my situation is slightly different than most posters here. i typically keep my iphone se updated with the latest software. in fact, i randomly checked for a software update a few days ago and my phone showed i was on the latest software (don't recall if it specifically said 11.4.1 or not, sorry). sometime today between about 11:30am (last time i used my phone to send a text) and now (about 2pm) my phone "updated". since ios 11.4.1 was released in july and i checked within the last week for an update, i have no idea what my phone possibly could have updated to today. not to mention, i never delayed an update request notification or requested an update today. after reaching for my phone and seeing my software had been updated, i also got a message saying my apple id could not be verified because there was no access to the server. i selected to skip the verification and couldn't sign out of my apple id for the same reason, no access to the server. i cycled power on my phone and got the software updated successfully message again and was able to login to my apple id at that time. i noticed my battery was dropping quickly so i cycled power one more time, nothing out of the ordinary during that power cycle. my phone now seems to be functioning correctly, but i'll need to keep on eye on it for a while.

This just happened to me too!!! I have an iPhone 6s and 6sPlus and both were on 10.3.3 because I use various network tools to obtain the MAC address. My 6sPlus updated first and I did not tell it to update. Immediately I checked my 6s and put it in airplane mode; WIFI was still enabled though. Several days later I go to use the 6s and it has updated to 11.4.1. Contacted Apple and they act as though this should not have happened but yet it did and the multiple posts in this forum in addition evidence of their intentional breach.

This is not what I had purchased !!!

An addition to my iOS 11.4 update from iOS 10.3.3 that occurred without my permission:

- my purchased networking tools app are not functioning as they did when purchased while running iOS 10.3.3. Again this is not the app I had purchased originally because Apple has now blocked its functions after iOS 11.

Note from app developer:

The Fing network scanner sadly cannot show MAC addresses on iOS 11. The reason for this is that Apple has blocked any app from accessing MAC addresses in the ARP table of the iPhone’s Operating System (iOS). Therefore, MAC addresses can no longer be captured during a network scan performed on an iPhone.

- I will say again!!! This iPhone is not the phone I had purchased. It has been modified by Apple without my consent !! And Apple will not allow older iOS platforms to be reinstalled.

Apple you must allow any iOS platforms to be re-installed back to our idevices !!!

I 100% agree with you HiredSound. I have been denying the update for weeks, I never allow updates until they have been out for 1-2 months and I have researched the bugs to decide if I want it or not. The last two updates were denied by me like always for several weeks, I understand the process I have the same response every time. Then like you one day this week I wake up to find my phone has updated on its own. No body else has access to my phone, I believe there is some kind of glitch somewhere that is allowing this to happen. I could be up in the night, in fact I think I must have been to have made this mistake myself sense in the past I have managed to not update my phone for 1 1/2 years without a problem and the last two have happened apparently without permission. Maybe I'm sleep walking/updating. Still I wish I had and option to stop the repeated reminders popping up. I can clearly see if they would just have a red dot with a 1 in it next to the settings icon indicating an update like other app icons do and stop pestering me. Just my 2 pennies worth.

Actually this is a real issue. I have tested it and know it to be a real issue. Even without clicking accept, it has sometimes installed on devices that do not approve the install. I understand that it should not work that way, but it has done it. You can say that it is designed to not work that way, but fact is that it is not performing as expected. There is a bug. I noticed it when my iPad said that it didn’t update because it wasn’t plugged into power. I have since tested it on other device, and the issue is real.

I would love to be able to say “No” to an update and have it stop asking me. I’m sure a lot of us here already find it annoying that we can’t toggle off the badge icon on the settings app. We’re being oppressed by apple, and I for one have already ceased to buy anymore devices from Apple.

Please know what you are talking about before you respond. The automatic updates is NOT for apps AT ALL. It is for iOS Updates. That's why it's list under "Software Update". The apps update is under Settings, Apple ID, iTunes & App Stores, Automatic Downloads Select Apps

The post in which I made that statement if from April, long before iOS 12 was released and the settings were changed. What I posted was correct at the time I posted it. And, it never hurts to be pleasant to people when you're correcting them (especially if that correction turns out to be wrong).

There is clearly a divide in this thread as to weather or not Apple would take it upon themselves to FORCE the newest IOS on us. I absolutely believe they would (did it to my phone last night :-/).... they are Apple not some benevolent giver of the tech. What I find most amusing is that the doubters that this could ever happen are SUPER Fanboys. It has been my experience with SUPER Fanboys that you always have the latest software... generally BETA. You typically do not wait weeks or months to update your device.

P.S. My auto update for IOS 12 is off.

It a two step process to prevent auto updates. You cannot just 'turn it off'.

You have to click on both options in these prompts:
