When I open PDF in preview the grid lines are visible - and they are visible when I print - how can I get rid of them please?

Ensure that you have the grid lines disabled in the application before exporting it to PDF. If the grid lines still appear in the PDF, there is nothing you can do about it in Preview.
Preview has no means to enable, or disable grid lines.
Do the grid-lines appear when opening the PDF with Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, or another PDF viewer?
If you were producing this PDF via an Automator solution, there is an action in the Automator PDF library that applies a grid to the PDF.

sorry - yes - from Silhouette Studio - when I open a PDF in preview - the PDF. This image was a PDF opened from Silhouette Studio and converted to jpeg to illustrate. When you magnify the image you can see the grid lines - which show when it is printed out.
