iTunes not connecting to iPhone

Hi,

I have an iPhone 7 version 11.3, and it will not connect to my computer iTunes to sync. Has been happening for months, before previous updates, I just didn't have time to deal with it. I keep getting this error message:

"iTunes could not connect to the iPhone “iPhone” because an error occurred while reading from the device."

iTunes is updated to latest version on my computer 12.2.2.

Thanks for your help!

Thank you for providing as much data as you did, as it makes the solution apparent.

This is exactly what your issue is!

The current version of iTunes is 12.7.4. This version of iTunes requires Windows 7 or later, or OS X 10.10.5 or later.

iTunes 12.7 or later is required to communicate to iOS 11 or later.

So your old operating system cannot accommodate a recent enough version of iTunes to communicate to your device.
