I have a few hundred videos which I cannot add to iCloud. I think it has something to do with the video container formats (.mov, .avi, .mp4, .m4v, .dv, .mpeg). Any ideas?
I am having trouble getting a few hundred videos loaded into my iCloud Photo Library.
Last year I signed up for additional iCloud storage for myself and my wife, and turned on iCloud Photo Library. I uploaded about 20,000 photos across both our accounts into iCloud and some videos from our PC.
However, some of the videos did not upload. It appears that it is mostly older videos.
I think it may have to do with the video container file types, but I’m not really sure.
The file extensions are: .mov, .avi, .m4v, .mp4, .dv, and .mpeg.
I’m a little surprised that iCloud doesn’t handle the QuickTime based files (.mov, .m4v, .mp4, .mpeg). After all, some of the videos which did upload are some of the those file types (and some were captured on older iPhones...). On the other hand, it seems like iCloud doesn’t handle .avi or .dv, which I suppose makes some sense.
Do I need to convert any of these to a different format? Which format? Any support articles or websites that explain how to convert to the proper type? I’ve been searching around and I can’t seem to find much detail on exactly what iCloud supports.
Not sure if this detail matters: I also have an old white plastic MacBook where some of these files reside. Some of the videos in Photos on the MacBook are not in iCloud (even though iCloud is turned on). I have tried using www.iCloud.com to upload the videos, but it doesn’t work.
Thanks.
