Logic audio cuts and distorts

I have this problem that has been happening lately and it came out of nowhere.

I have a mid 2012 Pre Retina MacBook Pro, 2TB with 8GB of ram

when I play back my songs on logic sometimes the audio just mutes/goes silent. it has nothing to do with the mute buttons.

It also gets distorted and begins to sound all 8-bit like.

This has never happened before and I don't understand where this issue manifested from.

The version of logic I have is 10.3.2.

can anyone help?

I don't know but it would take one variable away

You might want to try these setting first....
