I just bought an iPhone 8 plus and love it so far. One issue though that bothers me so much is that when I tried to take a close-up photo of a print out document, there are some blue curves /areas that show on the darker area.
I don't know if this is a software or hardware problem. Does anyone have the same issue? Please see the attached photo and look at the darker/shadow area.

Thanks for replying. I know the shadow is due to the lighting, but I was trying to refer to the blue color curves in the shadow. I've attached the same photo with red marks indicating what I was referring to. This seems very strange to me.
I would GUESS at imperfections in the paper itself
Test that by turning the book upside down (rotate 180°) and take another pic & post
Here is the VERY light blue arcs (& some other "spots") that I see annotated
I took another photo at the evenly lit white board as well as the ceiling of the room. (I know you probably won't take such photos on a daily basis, but just trying to isolate the problem)
In this picture below you can see the blue chunk in the middle of the white board (and no it's not from the marker I double checked closely)
This photo below you can see there's like an area that seems like leaking mark from the ceiling but in reality there's not.
I know these two don't look as obvious as the first photo, but it's just to show that it's there and mostly happens with white background.
Thanks for replying. yes, you're referring to the same blue arcs I am seeing. I did try on other paper to isolate the paper itself, and it still happens. (I took a photo on a white board, another paper, and sometimes there are the blue arcs, sometimes just blue chunks). I made sure I cleaned the lens so it's not dirty.

I cannot test - no iPhone much less an 8+
Experiment with external lighting - use desk lamps (directional) diffused with a white sheet from at least two directions
Do you have an Apple Store nearby?
Make a Genius Bar reservation by starting at that store's web page (you'll see where to start)
Give the Genius the URL to this thread to show the samples on a large computer display

Outdoors with sunlight - in the shade but sunny - light overcast - experiment
the artifacts seem to be in a "shaded" area - almost like the shape of your head - from an overhead , diffuse light source? May be that the software is trying to make corrections for the difference?

Perhaps something to do with fluorescent light source?
these last are not as obvious - I had to REALLY look hard
I'd try no fluorescent light source next (to eliminate or maybe confirm my guess)
Hi thanks for replying. The first photo was 1.45MB and I think it was compressed when uploaded to the forum. But it is the same when I view the original size photo on iPhone and on my laptop, both still show the same. The other photos I only add the red marks to indicate where I saw the blue areas are, and no other post-editing.
I do wish it was the compression artifacts though, because I don't have to worry about it if it shows fine without editing/compression. Now I am guessing it could be how iPhone processes the photo once it's shot...

ahh, okay, wasn't aware of that.-
hmm - my speciality is more in Video 😉 … there, one rule is: 'gradients of grey are most difficult' … so, a 'fix' could be some manual settings, set pic brighter (whites white), increase contrasts, if your cam.app offers it, use a Histogram to set the right exposure.
Those pics are all shot in 'full auto' mode, I guess?
Is HDR enabled for the camera of your iPhone? With HDR enabled the tiny structures in the paper will be emphasized and may be creating "Ghosts". If you have been using HDR, enable "Keep normal photos", so you can compare the the HDR version to the normal photo.
Go to Settings > Camera, then turn on "Keep Normal Photo" (by default, both the normal and HDR versions of the photo appear in Photos). In your albums, HDR versions of photos are marked with “HDR” in the corner.
What this appears to me as, is your shadow from overhead lighting. Perhaps consider multiple sources of light to eliminate your shadow.

… those are so-called Compression Artifacts.
A regular iPhone photo is ~2MB in size, the attached pic here has just 400kB.
Do you 'process' your pictures after shooting?
No worries... yeah they are all in full auto mode with tap-on focus. I do agree that gradients of grey are difficult to render/process, yet I expected the 8 plus to do a better job than that though.
