Airport extreme A1143 won't turn on after power outage

After a power outage my Airport Extreme does not turn on anymore. The status light does not turn on.

Further inspection show the LED near the UPT port on the back blinking every second.

I checked the power supply, but this still provides 12 Volt. The checked the backup (?) battery inside and it still has 3 Volt.

Resetting the Airport does not help, the UTP LEDs keep blinking.

Is there any more things I can do?

I checked the amps too, this fluctuated between 0 and 1,2 A 😐

Luckely I got a another 12V 1.5A adapter from a different device. And voila the Airport worked with that power supply.

Not sure how this power supply will behave in a 24/7 situation though.

An A1143 can either be a 1st or 2nd generation 802.11n AirPort Extreme base station. Both were notorious for power-related failure issues, regardless of the cause. At this point, you may want to consider retiring it as most consumer-grade networking hardware only have a typical useful life of around 3-5 years. Since the 2nd gens were discontinued in Mar 2009, your's has served you well to have lasted that long.

Although the power supply might provide 12 volts, it must also do so at about 2 amps.

If you have checked, and the power supply is in fact providing 12 volts at about 2 amps, there is unfortunately not much more that you can do, and the AirPort will need to be replaced.

If the amperage is significantly less, then another power supply might be worth a try, especially if the seller will allow you to return the product for credit or refund.

12v 3A supplies are readily available and cheap as.

The rule of thumb is most supplies are rated to run at around 50% of their output continuous. The top figure should only be drawn for a couple of minutes otherwise the supply will overheat.

1.5A is slightly underrated for the Extreme. It is probably ok if you don't have the gigabit model. ie yours is gen1.

So I do recommend 3A as they do tend to be much better power supplies.. you can also use up to around 15v which happens to be a good rating for laptop power supplies which tend to be far better quality than typical supplies.. but I do recommend NOT buying anything that says REPLACEMENT supply on it. Second hand originals are far superior quality to replacements.

They tend to be very low grade.

Just remember spending money on something that old is probably a poor use of funds.. you would be better putting the cash to a replacement.
