Cursor frozen in upper left corner.

Cursor frozen in upper left corner of iMac. Therefore cannot log on.

Fortunately still had an ancient computer. Tried to email Apple Support

but that appears to be an impossibility. Cannot call as having a serious

hearing problem.

Saw some things possibly related but things suggested to do cannot as

cannot even logon as mentioned.

Just recently obtained this computer. Not a good introduction.

Any ideas?

Writing an effective Apple Support Communities question

Without anymore information than that the only thing I might suggest would be a safe boot Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support

I would make sure both devices are charged. I know you said that you chaarged them for 40 minutes or so but I’d charge them longer. I’d make sure that the lightning cable you’re using is good and that the power source you’re using is working. Are you charging with an AC charger or from the usb ports on the back of your iMac? Whichever method you used try the other. Is it possible the usb ports aren’t working? If so try resetting the SMC How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

Do you have access to a wired usb keyboard? Any one will work, can you borrow one?

Tried the safe mode. came to login screen.. Still cursor in left corner and could not get to my circled icon ( whatever) to logon.

I will admit I am not a very computer literate person. This computer is maybe 15 years old. Purchased the iMac a few weeks ago as have always heard good things about them. Starting to question that now! Did work fine the first few weeks.

What additional information would be needed?

Mike,

Thanks for the answer but these don't use batteries like that. iMac is MNE02LL/A. Purchased about six weeks ago. Where I purchased is not an Apple store but has Apple items in their electronics area, but no technicians. I did try charging both devices and kept them plugged in for 40 minutes or so. But no way to tell if they were charging or even needed it.

I am about to sleep as have to work early in the morning. In case you have any other idea(s) I probably won't respond for

21-22 hours. Work early and it will be a very long day. If I have a chance I will look here before going to work, but

most times I don't have that luxury when I have to get going extremely early.

Went to workright after my last comment. I was charging with the usb ports. I have the keyboard from my old computer but the connection isn't usb, at least not like I have seen. I can try to borrow one or, as I mave time tomorrow, see if I can find a basic one. Would a usb keyboard allow me to go through the steps to actually log on.

Didn't think I would end up with a large, expensive unique looking paper weight! I hope to move in the next 5-8 montbs or so. I know there is an Apple store in that area that I could maybe take it. But don't want to wait all that time!

As for the usb port working, I really wouldn't yet. Ahh, when I used an old plug in mouse it was plugged into the back.

Things happened and I was sick of getting nowhere with this. But obtained a usb keyboard.

With that and the usb mouse I was able to log on. Though it was a struggle as the cursor seemed to

bounce all around and had to make multiple depression to get al the characters typed iin.

Finally was able to click on the Apple logo and System Preferences. However could not get into

preference area as it I had to enter my password. When I clicked on the "enter password" block so as

to type in my password it instantle said incorrect password or such. Tried multiple time and then shut

computer off and started from scratch. No change. This is getting to be absolutely insane. I am starting

to think I made an expensive mistake and I should just junk it as it is useless and I have spent considerable

time trying to get it to work.

Before doing that are there any ideas of how to get into System Preferences? Supposedly that is where I will

find out if the Bluetooth is on.

Thank you.

I would have done that already if I could. I purchased the computer on a U.S. military overseas. There are Apple Stores

in this country but no where near where I am. I had intended to move back to the U.S. about this time but circumstances have pushed that back a few months. If that hadn't happened I wouldn't have purchased the computer

until after moving. I have a serious hearing problem caused by a medical condition. It is usually impossible to carry on

a conversation on the phone. I will now move in October at the earliest and January at the latest. Granted, I could just wait until I move and then take the computer in. There is an Apple store within a few minutes of where I will go. That plan is obviously flawed. There are Apple stores here but none anywhere near where I am. I know some people of gone to one that is 300 plus miles away. Just a tad inconvenient. Yes, I have a convergence of issues. I am sure I am not the only one this has had this issue. Sure there must be some easy correction. Would think Apple would put out

instructions. For the short time it worked I really liked it. Loved the color! I am starting to think that it is a continuation of my, if it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any! Could just wait until I move, but that would just leave me with an expensive and large paper weight for up to 3/4 of a year.

Cursor frozen in upper left corner.
