I am considering buying this new Airport, but I will need to set up a VPN between it and my work location. Can this device cope with doing that? The old Airport Extreme could not.
Intel iMac 20" 2GHz,
Mac OS X (10.4.8),
2Gb. SDRAM
Actually, I was hoping to find out more about the settings on both:
- the Airport Extreme base Station (which I was hoping I could run with the default / out-of the-box settings after the firmware update), and
- the SecureClient settings
Can you connect a NOVTEL USB720 wireless modem to Airports Extremes USB Port & have the capability of allowing multiple users on my Network access my Verizon acct..?
Well, I got a more recent version of the Cisco VPN client for Windows on my Dell laptop and now it's all working w/no need for any assigned IP address or DMZ nonsense. So my setup is good-to-go. thanks Apple!
I have updated to airport extreme 7.1 and I'm still having the problem with a Cisco Systems VPN Client Version 4.8.00.0440. When I connect to the Internet without the VPN everything works well. When I connect with the VPN connected, I have no connection to the Internet on this Airport Extreme only. Other wireless networks work fine. Putting the machine in the DMZ doesn't resolve the issue.
I spoke to Apple Care and they indicated that 7.1 updated solved the problem for some, but they are aware that it did not solve for all. We went through their recommendation of t he default host - but it doesn't work. I sent them a base station config file and they are going to follow up with me.
If you are having this problem, you should take the time to report it to Apple (not this forum) so they know it has some issues.
The thing is, IP protocols 50 and 51 are not the same as TCP/UDP ports 50/51. There should be a way to enable these protocols on the router, but I haven't found it yet.

Hope You have figured this out else here goes:
I use Secureclient from my Windows XP Office laptop.
I did a firmware update on Airprt Utility(7.1).
Still no connect thru VPN.
Then I checked the Box "Enable Default Host at 10.1.1.253" under Airport Uility=> Internet=>NAT
"Enable NAT port mapping protocol" is Checked too.
Did not change anything on the windows side.
Let me know if you need any more config info from my MAc or Laptop.
I am using Internet Connect to access a VPN server that is hosted on OS X Server 10.4 and it still doesn't work without enabling the Default NAT Host and reserving an IP for my iBook. Anyone have any recent success?
Just bought the N router and had problems with my work vpn: some web pages/apps would not load - just a blank page would open up without errors. Tried the fix and everything is fine now. Didnt have this problem running a g apple router. Does apple intend to fix this problem?
I'm using an AirPort Extreme 802.11n (Fast Ethernet) with the latest version 7.2.1 and it STILL has a problem. The only way I can get my VPN to work at all is with the "default host" hack and setting up a DHCP reservation based on MAC address, yet it still it has intermittent problems.
My VPN software is Microsoft's IT Connection Manager. I'm a Microsoft contractor trying to RAS (VPN/PPTP) into Microsoft's Redmond campus.
I get an error 800 when trying to connect to my VPN. If I "enable default host" with the IP pointing to my VPN server it works. However this is not an option as it is an unacceptable security risk. I tried port forwarding the proper ports however this results in an error 721. Which means that it is talking with the server however it is unable to authenticate.
