When I import a photo from my photo library to my iMovie project, and I drag it into my time line, it the photo turns black. I tried with downloaded photos from random places and they work fine in iMovie. I also tried sending photos from my photo library to my mail and then downloading, but still I have the same problem... Please help!

Are you clicking on Photos Library in the library list in iMovie and then dragging the photo into the timeline from the media viewer? What version of iMovie are you using? This problem has been reported with iMovie 11(version 9) but not often in iMovie 10. If you are using iMovie 10.1.8 or 9 it might be because the photo is high resolution. Try opening the photo in Preview and reducing the long side to less than 4000 pixels.
I can add that it only is photos from this particular folder, that causes problems.
Thanks a lot! I'm using iMovie 10.1.9 and I tried to reduce the resolution from 300 to 72 px/In. Downsized furthermore - 4000 px was still to much but 2600 px is working.
