Turn off proximity sensor on your iPhone

Since I upgraded my iPhone 7 Plus to iOS 11.3, the proximity sensor is ridiculously sensitive. For example, if the phone is sitting face up on the table and I get within 3 inches of the top half of my phone (by the camera) the screen turns off. Any thoughts on how to fix this or turn off this "feature"?

Ok I had the same, getting any object within 2 or 3 inches of the camera made it go blank, upgraded to 11.3.4 and it fixed it. However it started again a few days later.

A hard re-boot (press release up volume, pres release down volume, press & hold start button let slider come up, keep it pressed and after a few seconds the apple logo will appear, keep the button pressed until the apple logo re-appears and then release the button. After a few seconds press and release the start button) fixed it and it has not returned.

Same here. Though it took a while to happen, it happened after the update. I went so far as to turn off fitness tracking (which should turn off the automatic “facedown” screen shutdown), but this did not help so my next step will be a full reboot, but very annoying since it kept shutting down this morning while using Waze to get to work. I have an iPhone 7 (but not a plus).

This worked for me aswell this morning, weird though because I upgraded to iOS11.4 when it became available and didn’t have this issue up until a couple of days ago. Wonder what triggers the sudden change.?.

My 3 year old daughter was going out of her mind when playing with the phone. She kept telling me to charge my phone thinking itwas turning off but looked confused when itcame back on. Finally she gave up and said papi fix your phone its broke :)
