Carplay audio stops working

Hello, I have an Iphone 7 plus running iOS 11.3 I use carplay in my 2018 Subaru Legacy Limited. I find it often stops playing audio for calls for no apparent reason that I can notice. The car still shows carplay connected, however suddenly the audio will disappear. Yesterday for example I made and completed a call no problem, then after finishing that call I tried to make another using siri and started the call however when the other party answered the audio stopped working even the call connected, as soon as I unplug the cable the bluetooth in the car takes over and it works over the bluetooth. However if I plug the phone back in again no audio. It seems the only thing that resets it is if I stop and shut off the car and reboot the phone. Yet it was working fine minutes earlier... I am running latest version of iOS Needless to say this is very frustrating. Not sure what to try????? However working in sales I use my phone a lot in the car and want to be able to use carplay.

Thanks

Hi,

i have a similar problem with my IPhone 6S. I use it with a Citroen Grand C4 Picasso. Everything is fine, music is running. Suddenly the audio signal stops, but the track is still running (time indicator still moves). What I'm doing now is to start siri, open messages or audible over carplay and go back to music. When I touch play again the audio is there, without pluggin out and in the cable.

The interesting thing is, that the audio stops working when my IPhone mobile connection changes from 3G to Edge (I don't have LTE), changes from Edge to no connection or changes from 3G to WLan (when I'm arriving home). By Changing in the other direction Edge to 3G, Wlan to 3G or no connection to 3G or edge, nothing happens and audio still runs on.

Have written this problem still to apple. I hope they'll find a solution.

Greetings from Germany

Hi Becky, thank you for replying. These suggestions have been tried. I note that this problem is widespread among car play users by the number of post's on this subject. When this issue happens all audio out of the iphone does not work, if I unplug the cable while the audio has failed it immediately starts working over bluetooth. Clearly this is a carplay software issue as I have noted it happens to others based on web searches with different vehicles. Can you offer other suggestions?

Thanks

Greetings, markinhfx.

It appears that, when using CarPlay in your 2018 Subaru Legacy Limited with your iPhone 7 Plus, phone calls stop routing through the stereo system. You have to restart both the iPhone and your Subaru in order to get it working correctly again, and I'm happy to help.

Get help connecting your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with your car stereo

If you're using USB Playback

  1. Restart your iOS device and your car.
  2. Connect your iOS device to a different stereo USB port (if you have one).
  3. Try a different Lightning to USB cable.
  4. Update your iOS device.
  5. Install any firmware updates for your car stereo.

Try playing audio from a different app. If you can't play audio from a third-party app, contact the app developer for help. If you can't play audio from an Apple app, contact Apple Support.

If you're using CarPlay

Many newer model cars support CarPlay—providing a safer way to use your iPhone in the car. Some features (like turn-by-turn navigation) aren't available in all regions. Learn more about how to set up and use CarPlay.

If your car supports CarPlay using your Lightning to USB cable, plug your iPhone into the USB port of your car. The USB port might be labeled with a CarPlay icon or a smartphone icon.

If your car supports wireless CarPlay, press and hold the Voice Control button on your steering wheel to set up CarPlay. Or make sure that your car is in wireless or Bluetooth pairing mode. Then on your iPhone, go to Settings > General > CarPlay > Available Cars and select your car. See the owner's guide for your car for more information.

Take care!
