Copy our wedding dvd to icloud to play on appletv

Hello - I'm trying to copy my wedding DVD to my icloud drive so I can play it back using Apple TV as well as ensure its saved on the cloud for future.

My current ipad mini & macbook pro do not have dvd drive, but I do have an older macbook that still has one. I was able to copy the DVD to that hardrive using instructions I found here via disk utility, but it created a .cdr file. I tested playback before attempting to save to icloud and it only play audio. I've seen some posts about others trying to convert the .cdr file so it can play in iMovie and seems others have struggled too.

Can anyone help with step by step instructions for someone that isn't (obviously) too tech savvy?

Our anniversary is next week & wanted to surprise wife with a viewing.

Thanks in advance!!

The first step is to convert the DVD into a .m4v or a .mov file, there are various applications available to do this but you might try mpegstreamclip or handbrake. much of the process is obvious but ask if you aren't sure. This page might help.

Next, you can't simply put the file into the cloud and let your Apple TV see it. If you want it cloud based you might try adding it to your Photos application. Another alternative is to add it to iTunes on a computer and view it via home sharing.
