iTunes freezes when I connect my iPod Classic

Recently, iTunes has froze everytime I connect my iPod Classic.

What happens is that iTunes detects the iPod, but the process of syncing stops in 'Verifying iPod' for hours, with no progress in the synchronization whatsoever: the iPod's music stays the same, with none of the changes I made in my library showing up.

This has been happening since I installed the new update, although I have to say at one point I cancelled said update while it was installing for some reason I don't remember. I started the installation from scratch later. Maybe that's the problem, idk.

Hi there,

I've had a similar problem and after 4 hours of messing around came up with a solution! Sharing here in case it helps anyone else... FYI, I manually update my iPod classic (I don't automatically sync). The last time I added a batch of new songs it freaked out and crashed on me, and ever since then whenever I plugged my iPod in to iTunes it would recognise the device and say 'Verifying iPod...' but then iTunes would freeze and I couldn't do anything. So frustrating!

I actually gave up and ended up downloading an alternative free transfer app so I could just put a new album on my iPod (MediaMonkey), but it told me there was an error with the syncing and that it was still trying to update from the previous time I had successfully added songs... it seemed one of those songs had got stuck syncing and this was making iTunes crash! I used that software to somehow get rid of the stuck file (eventually).

I couldn't use MediaMonkey to pop on a new album so I downloaded another free software called CopyTrans Manager, then added the new album which seemed to re-awaken my iPod and sync it successfully... after that, I opened iTunes and voila... it no longer froze...!

Hope this is useful to you/someone else out there! It was driving me crazy!

Hey!

I forgot to say I also uninstalled and re-installed iTunes (using atulh's top answer method here: iTunes 11.1.4 freezes after connecting iDevices) so maybe you could try that if you didn't already. His method didn't work for me on its own, it only worked after using MediaMonkey and CopyTrans to get rid of the syncing issue. I'm not sure what else you could try unfortunately - I was just posting what worked for me in the hopes it might help someone else. At least you can use CopyTrans for now and hopefully iTunes will sort it self out eventually (maybe when they release a new version?)

Good luck!!

Hey man...

I tried your method, but iTunes still freezes in 'Verifying iPod'...

I successfully deleted and re-synched the albums that I had edited on iTunes that didn't change on the iPod with CopyTrans, and even synched another song that wasn't on iTunes.

So, my iPod works with CopyTrans very well.

But still, iTunes has the same problem...
