Gray screen with icon after high sierra update

I have an early 2011 MBPro and have just downloaded High Sierra. On the reboot, I got the start up sound this gray screen and circle. Every 11 seconds it blinks the apple logo. I have done a hard restart. same thing. Any suggestions?

Reply to my own post. Just in case anyone needs help on this

  1. I powered down the Mac (held down power key)
  2. I restarted holding down the option key on restart.
  3. I choose the boot drive
  4. I gave me the option to sign in to my network
  5. It downloaded High Sierra from the internet
  6. I have to do a short question and answer (iCloud sign in, etc


back up and running. whew. close call.
