Apple Watch did not sync old text messages
I just bought a new series 3 watch and set up as new with my iPhone X. Pictures, emails etc are all on the watch but not recent texts. Only showing new ones. Is there a way to retrieve the old?

Messages are contained in your device backups. What this means is that in order to restore previous message history to your new device, it would need to be restored from a backup. Learn more about backing up your Apple Watch data here:

If you upgraded to the Apple Watch Series 3 from a different Apple Watch that was backed up to iCloud or iTunes, erase your new Apple Watch and set it up again following the steps here:

Specifically, follow the steps in this section:
If you do not have a previous backup to restore the Apple Watch Series 3 from, the message history would not be able to be restored. Let us know if you have any additional questions from here.

Specifically, follow the steps in this section:
Use your Apple Watch
If you don't have your paired iPhone, you can still remove the passcode from your Apple Watch.
- Keep your watch on its charger until you complete these steps.
- Press and hold the side button until you see Power Off.
- Firmly press the Power Off slider, then lift your finger.
- Tap Erase all content and settings.
- Wait for the process to finish, then set up your Apple Watch again. When asked, restore from a backup.
