manage ipod 6th generation ipod touch podcast library

I have a huge podcast library, and want to sync only a few podcasts onto my 6th generation ipod touch each time I recharge the battery - and I don't want to see ANY other podcasts on the ipod. That was very simple on my 2nd generation touch - in iTunes I simply marked all podcasts in the library as played except the ones I wanted this time. After the sync I had a very easy to manage series of podcasts in a very efficient menu - I could scroll to the top of a series, start that one, and every podcast on the list from a given subscription would play in sequence until the entire list was played. If I wanted, it would play for hours with no interaction. Perfect.

I have no idea how to do that on this 6th gen touch. First - compared to the 2nd gen the 6th gen interface is a confusing mess in a very inefficient screen layout. Worse yet, after a sync with only a few unplayed podcasts in iTunes, my ipod shows me many podcasts that I've marked as played in my iTunes library and DO NOT want to see this time. And even worse yet the ipod shows me podcasts that I've completely DELETED from iTunes. Is it possible to set up the ipod 6th gen so I see ONLY a select few podcasts? Gawd I hope so, this is a real mess.

iPod touch, iOS 11.2.6

No, I'm afraid not.

Yes, it is.

You could try setting up Stations in the Podcast app, which (in theory) should show you only what you want. A "station" should show only the downloaded and unplayed episodes of your chosen Podcast. My experience though, is that the app tends to bung in old episodes whenever the "station list" is empty.

I've been using an alternative app, because the Apple one is so user hostile. You and I are not the only ones to think so.

Thanks very much, based on the other threads I found I feared that's what I'd be told. So in the final analysis I guess this falls under if-it-ain't-broke-don't-fix-it. I really like my 2nd gen touch, the only reason I upgraded was to host a new app that wasn't compatible with the old one. The plan was to roll everything over to the 6th gen, but then (1) I found that my favorite old app wouldn't run on the 6th gen (have to keep the 2nd gen for that one), (2) I dislike the wake-up process (found an acceptable work-around), and (3) the battery life seems noticeably shorter. I assumed the podcast interface was my failure to understand it - but now that you've all convinced me it's their fault that's strike 4. I'm going back to the 2nd gen for all my old stuff, 6th gen will be used solely for the new app (which I only use on annual overseas trips). Thanks!

But no thanks to Apple. It'd be great if they fixed that someday, but I won't hold my breath - and even if they fixed it next week how would I ever find out.
