CarPlay Maps does not remember last position or orientation

I'm all-in with CarPlay, I have two vehicles 2016 and 2018 that have built-in CarPlay.

When I connect my iPhone X with Lightning Cable to my car I get the CarPlay apps screen. When I select Maps, I get a zoomed-out map of the entire US with location icon showing my location. I then need to select the orientation/position icon, then select the + icon to zoom in to a useable street level map, then select the orientation again for direction up, and then 3D, then everything works fine. BUT I need to do this every time I get in my car!!! If I turn the car off and remove my iPhone, when I re-connect it, I start with the entire US location map and need to go through all those steps to get a useful map.

Does anyone know what's going on here??? Is there some reason my iPhone/CarPlay doesn't remember the last position, zoom level, orientation???

Any help, please!

Hello Bob,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it seems you are experiencing issues with the Map in CarPlay in your car is zoomed out every time you use it with your iPhone X. To help with this issue, please follow these steps on CarPlay issues, including contacting the car's manufacture for possible firmware updates:

If CarPlay doesn't work like you expect, here’s what you can check. After each step, try using CarPlay again.

  1. Make sure that Siri is turned on.
  2. Restart your iPhone and your car. Depending on your car, you might see the CarPlay Home screen when you turn it on. If you don't, look for the CarPlay logo on your car’s display.
  3. If possible, connect your iPhone to a different USB port in your car.
  4. Try a different Lightning to USB cable. Make sure that the cable is certified.
  5. Update to the latest version of iOS.
  6. Check your car’s manual for help. You might need to install firmware updates for your stereo.
