Printing Failed

I cannot print to my Epson printer and I am ready to pull my hair out:

System: MacBook Pro running MacOS 10.13.4

Printer: Epson Artisan 1430 connected by USB cables.

I have two homes with an Artisan 1430 printer in each location. When I returned to NY this week I reinstalled the printer and it would not print. I then deleted all printers from the Printers. & Scanners preference, and uninstalled then reinstalled the driver. I also Reset the Printing System. Still nothing. The Epson Printer Utility says there is a communications error. My Print Queue is stalled at Printing - Sending data to printer, (where is is currently on a new attempt). On a previous attempt to print, after a long wait of Sending data, the Print Queue message changed to Filter Failure.

The printer prints a page when preforming a Pringers Operations Check, and it is discoverable by the Mac, so there is some type of communication. I changed USB cables. I found a post on this forum in which someone with a similar problem received instructions from Epson, and I followed them - again uninstalling everything recommended and reinstallling. Still no joy. I am open to any suggestions. The only thing I can think of doing now is a reinstall of the OS. Something is corrupt somewhere, but I cannot find where. I was printing two weeks ago in Florida.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS High Sierra (10.13.4)

I am continuing to search online to see if I can find anything out, and one post I saw mentioned that the USB ports could have problems. The USB on my computer works fine, and can connect other devices. That makes me think it could be the USB port on the printer, but the computer does recognize the printer when setting it up.

One more thing I tried - My Epson scanner works fine, no connection problems. Which would make me think it is a printer problem, except for the fact that the Mac does recognize the printer, just will not print. I am going to try and find another printer to hook up to see if it prints. The other printer in our house is an older Canon that is no longer has an MacOS driver.
