Mac OS 10.13.4 wake up screen glitch

I've been noticing this issue lately and Ive called apple support about it and we have tried clearing the nv ram and the cmos and it still will not go away. I was worried that it could have been a hardware issue but after doing some researching I think this may be a software issue with metal 2. every time I wake my MacBook Pro from sleep I get a brief 1 second flash this is what it looks like

I found a reddit post with a lot of people having the same issue and I hope that apple sees this and fixes it.

is anyone else having this issue on the latest version of high Sierra ? are there any fixes ?

I have the exact same issue and laptop. The screen glitches have been getting a little worse and I just got the below screen—my laptop had frozen, then I got this screen and had to manually restart. I chatted Apple Support after and they told me to reset the NVRAM. Hopefully this helps, but based on an earlier comment I'm skeptical.

its not solved I still have the issue. I tried formatting and re installing Mac OS , clearing the cmos and clearing the nvram and still the issue persists at this point I believe its a software issue and I guess we will have to wait and see if apple resolves the issue or not. im really disappointed they haven't even said anything regarding the issue.

Mine is still not fixed either. Everyone: Call in to Apple - send them a video of it to go to the engineers! Be ready with your iPhone when you open your lid to capture what they're calling an 'anomaly.' This is maddening that after 3 months and hours and hours and visits that they don't know what's wrong. I'd rather have a new computer under warranty without an anomaly, please! You?

To capture it, have your iPhone READY to take a video when you open the lid!! I've caught it a dozen times... then call Apple. Then talk to a supervisor and have them send you the link so you can send in the video to engineering. We have to keep reporting this so they do something about what they're calling 'an anomaly.'

its pretty irritating that they haven't said anything on this issue, I was kinda hoping that the update 13.5 was gonna drop today and maybe there is a fix in that update but they decided to update all other devices except the Mac its almost like they don't even care about it, these computers are already worth thousands of dollars and they don't even communicate with us on problems

Hoping will accomplish exactly nothing. You need to communicate with them:

how do I show it to them ? would I have to go to an apple store or is there a website I can go to submit this problem to them ?

You have to show it to them, in person. A screen sharing session with Support isn't likely to capture the glitch.

The Support link I posted will get you started.

Presuming you did that, what was Apple's response?

I did talk to them and we went through all the steps she had on her computer and still nothing was resolved. and the closest apple store is an hour away, im not gonna drive for two hours just to have them tell me the same thing, so update 13.5 came out today and im gonna be using it and see if apple included a fix in this update and ill be posting back here if it was fixed or not.

hey so I've been using my MacBook and I got a slip in the box it came with saying that they switched the logic board for another one, whoever, last night I was watching a youtube video and I noticed some flashing on the video area, and just a few moments ago I opened up launchpad and I saw a flicker almost but not so noticeable like the wake up part. I still haven't gotten a wake up glitch but if I'm getting the other two random flickers I think this problem may be related to metal 2 or something in Mac OS high sierra cause if replacing the whole logic board and cpu didn't change anything I don't know what else it could be.

Let me know if you get the wake up static glitch after a long sleep tomorrow. Wow. Replacing logic board and cpu? Now I'm glad I didn't send mine in. Question. Did they wipe your machine and bring you back to 10.13.5? Did you have to reinstall all your own data? Did they tell you to do it from 'restore to backup' or using migration assistant and only bringing SOME stuff back in? Thanks.

hey im just giving you an update, so I just woke up my laptop and the **** screen flashed grey again, at this point its gotta be a software issue. and yes since they replaced the whole logic board with another one all my data was wiped but I had it on iCloud and it came installed with 10.13.4. it was a fresh install of high Sierra 10.13.4. at this point I guess where gonna have to wait and see if 13.6 or Mojave fixes any of these issues

Welp, I heard there won't be a 10.13.6, it's going straight to 10.14. I'm so sorry that they didn't fix your computer. Make sure you report it to Apple! And tell them that there are sooooo many others with this same problem/glitch/static. Glad to know I'm not alone with this, but it feels like it when I spend WAY too many hours on the phone trouble shooting. I'll be staying tuned to this page. Thanks.

I've been having the screen flickering issue on opening my MacBook Pro (non Touch bar, 2017, macOS 10.13.6) for a while, but it's gotten worse recently. I didn't take a photo (I took a screenshot, but the screenshot shows nothing wrong), but what I saw was the same thing dntorricelli posted. For some reason, my MacBook also shut down/rebooted by itself, and it had to restart the apps I had open as soon as I logged back in.

Hopefully Apple will address this soon.
