Mac OS 10.13.4 wake up screen glitch

I've been noticing this issue lately and Ive called apple support about it and we have tried clearing the nv ram and the cmos and it still will not go away. I was worried that it could have been a hardware issue but after doing some researching I think this may be a software issue with metal 2. every time I wake my MacBook Pro from sleep I get a brief 1 second flash this is what it looks like

I found a reddit post with a lot of people having the same issue and I hope that apple sees this and fixes it.

is anyone else having this issue on the latest version of high Sierra ? are there any fixes ?

I have the exact same issue and laptop. The screen glitches have been getting a little worse and I just got the below screen—my laptop had frozen, then I got this screen and had to manually restart. I chatted Apple Support after and they told me to reset the NVRAM. Hopefully this helps, but based on an earlier comment I'm skeptical.

Yes, I have a similar problem. It happens with the touch bar. When the computer goes into sleep mode (screen turns off), after a few seconds, the touch bar flashes (extremely bright) similar to a freaky power surge. All i can hope for is this issue doesn't increase and effect the performance of my computer considering its less than a year old and I paid a freakin' TON of money for this thing😠

I'm so glad that I found this thread. I'm experiencing the same issue and I thought this could be my fault. The same wake up screen glitch and the flickering while watching videos (only when I use Safari). But since yesterday I'm on Mojave and I've got a new problem: today some black lines appeared on the bottom of my display. I just turned it off to eat something in the kitchen and when I came back and opened the Macbook they appeared. I tried everything (restarting, reseting NVRAM and SMC), but they still there. I'm really worried! Has anyone experienced this?

hey Raphael the issue is fixed on my 2016 MacBook Pro with touchbar ever since I updated to Mojave 10.14 the issue is gone and I haven't seen it since. I would recommend to you and anyone else having this issue to reinstall Mac OS Mojave with a clean install wipe your hard drive and start fresh maybe that will fix it for you guys.

Yes. Apparently, they fixed newer Macs and broke older ones. I have the MacBook Pro 13-inch, mid-2012, and I have the same wakeup issues since upgrading to Mojave. Furthermore, due to an unrelated issue with Photos being stuck on "Uploading 39 items", I completely wiped my Mac by re-partitioning and restoring 10.14.1, and the issue persists. Once it gets to what is supposed to be the password screen, objects like the account photo and buttons are just large white boxes, and the rest of the screen is either blocks or a large circular pattern of garbage. Once I put in my password and get to the desktop, it looks a lot like your photo, and varies a bit from time to time. Besides the snowy noise patterns, I also noticed the last time it happened that there were little crosshair-like plusses all over program windows that were open. I am unable to navigate well as the menus only flash the text on them for a second before presenting just a garbled box, so I have to click on where the Apple should be a few times to get my bearings as to where Restart is, to be able to click it. Restarting is the only thing I can do to fix the issue until it happens again.

Of all the threads I found online, this one here best describes the issues I'm having. Of all the descriptions of artifacts on the screen, the only one that looks exactly like mine are that of _shivairani_ and _rclarksworld_; namely the multi-colored bars and square pixely areas around windows, and menu bars. In that sense it is different from the original screen issues mentioned (with newer Macs). Interestingly, like those two users I have exact model , my computer is a 13" 2012 Macbook Pro (aluminum body). And here too, it happens once or twice a week upon waking from extended sleep, and if I reboot it goes back to normal.

This is happening on Mojave, and started at least since High Sierra (maybe even while on Sierra). The issue first manifested itself in a full screen of colored bars that would flash for half a second upon wakeup of the system, before showing the login screen with all things being normal thereafter. I was a little concerned about it, but didn't seek any solutions. It was around the same time that I installed Parallels, so I suspected that something about the virtual box software was messing with screen display issues. Any opinions on that being a possibility?

Someone mentioned that this pattern looking more like heating issues than the other ones. Why?

Would installing a fan control software potentially help with this? If so, why would this happen when waking up from sleep rather than during heaviest use of the CPU? Perhaps I will try to at least monitor the heat for a while.

Perhaps if ours too is a Metal 2 issue, it stands unresolved by Mojave and displays in a unique way on the 13" inch 2012 Macbook Pro.

I had the same issue on my MBP 13" mid 2012 using Mojave.

The fix was back to High Sierra (sadly).

I do not know why Apple says that Mojave is compatible with our machines but finally it is not.

In my case I upgraded my MBP with a Samsung SSD. Sometimes I thought that it could be the problem, but I have not tested with the old HDD.

Could be a problem recovering the screen status from the swap memory?

It is a really shame because Mojave works fine but when it wakes up.

Please, Apple, do a fix for this in order we can enjoy the real dark mode!!

I would like to move to Mojave to work on dark mode.

Do you know if there is a way to refresh the screen to recover the right screen behavior? I have to reboot and I loose everything not saved.

Or, do you know if there is an alternative to work on dark mode under HighSierra?

Thanks a lot for all your support.

I replaced my 2012 MacBook Pro with an SSD and 16GB of ram, full of standard ports, and it works better than the majority of current PC laptops on 2019.

Please, Apple listen to us and fix the issue in Mojave with our screens after wake ups.
