My Messages icon in the dock displays as having one unread message (1) and I cannot find ANY that are unread. How can I clear this?
Likely unrelated, but I'e been experiencing many inconsistencies recently between read/unread on my iPhone and MacBook (latest OS's on both).

Open Messages
GO to System Preferences > Notifications and turn them all Off for Messages.
Quit Messages.
Restart Messages then turn On Notifications again.

Hi,
Add an extra step then.
Between turning Notification Off and then restarting Messages, Shut down the computer before then restarting Messages.
If that fails it would seem that the Settings are not holding or being rewritten when you make changes .
