How do I turn off my iPhone X proximity sensor?

Every time I hold my phone or hover over my iPhone X’s proximity sensor (at the top of the phone where the call speaker is located) it turns the screen off. Sound still works and it doesn’t lock my phone (considering That this feature is made for phone calls when the phone is next to your ear) but it becomes agitating when i need to hold my phone at an awkward position or even just hovering ove the sensor. Is there any way to turn this feature off?
