"Developer tools access needs to take control of another process for debugging to continue. Enter your password to allow this"

I completely reinstalled High Sierra about 3 months ago and manually reinstalled all my programs.

A couple of weeks ago I started getting this unidentified pop-up window with the message "Developer tools access needs to take control of another process for debugging to continue. Enter your password to allow this". There isn't the slightest hint as to which program is issuing the message or why. I don't use any developer tools, in other forums I have seen references to Xcode. I haven't even got Xcode installed.

Obviously I'm loathe to enter a password without knowing why. I am the only user and only Admin on this iMac.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

iMac, macOS Sierra (10.12.6), 3TB FusionDrive, 32GB Ram

Hi Luis

I think I've found it: HUBIC

This is a cloud application that I use. It's based in France and belongs to OVH.com.

I got the pop-up again this morning and, at the same time, I noticed the Hubic icon had frozen. I then entered my password, since I'm sure that app is safe. The icon immediately disappeared. After restarting Hubic, it is now running smoothly, so I assume that was it.

But I'll bear Etrecheck in mind, just in case. If it happens again, I'll report.

Many thanks for your help.

Hello sterling r

A key aspect of the problem is that it is very sporadic and unpredictable. It has occurred now half-a-dozen times in about two weeks. Since I tend to use the same programs every day, I cannot localise it. So theoretically I would have to run safe mode for weeks to see if it occurred. And if it didn't I would be none the wiser.

What sort of programs are likely to issue such a request? Since I do not have any developer tools (i.e. I haven't installed any), we can discount them. What else is there? All the software I have on this machine is High Sierra compatible, most of it through the AppStore.

Any ideas?
