Cannot backup iPhone SE to iTunes

Can anyone help? I've never been able to back this phone up. Would really like to upgrade to the current iOS, but as as a matter of practice I usually don't do that until I have a backup to work from if needed.

Error message: iTunes could not backup the phone "name" because the iPhone disconnected.

The tech details:
iPhone SE, iOS 10.3.3, no jailbreaks ever installed
Multiple Windows 10 computers and multiple iTunes versions
Multiple brands of lightning cables (all MFI certified)

What I've tried:
-deleted backup folder from Windows

-phone in airplane mode

-phone in low power mode

-background app refresh disabled

-transfer purchases both enabled and disabl

iPhone SE, iOS 10.3.3

Update: YES!!! There was one app with one fill that had a ^ in the file name. Deleted the app, tried the update again, and it went right through. Thank you so much!

This could be an old iOS10.3.3 bug related to special characters in file names inside third-party apps. This articlehelped in my case.

I've gone through the steps and I did get an error. I've deleted the app in question (I couldn't positively ID it, but judging by the file name there's only one I think it could be), now I've restarted the phone and initialized a new backup. I'll let you know if that solved it.
