When I try to move a file by dragging and dropping it on the Desktop icon of the left Finder bar, it disappears, even though when I hold it there for a second, it blinks and places the file there, but then immediately the file disappears.
At first I thought it was mistakenly put somewhere else, but when I search for it, it is nowhere to be found.
Has this happened to anyone?

When you mention the Finder bar are you referring to the Dock which is usually at the bottom of your screen and contains icons of Apps, you can only place files and folders into the Dock on right hand side of the vertical line.

What happens when you just drop the file on the Desktop and not bother with moving it to the Sidebar Desktop icon.
Or if you click on the Sidebar Desktop icon to open it and you have the window with contents of your Desktop can you place the file in the Desktop folder contents.
Have you tried restarting your Mac?
Well it should be on your Desktop, use the Finder search field, enter the name of the file and see if you can locate it.
Do you have the iCloud set so that the contents of your Desktop and Documents folder are stored there?

No, I haven't set the iCloud for any storage.
I have been trying this for a while now, and mysteriously enough, this only happens when I try to move a file to my Desktop.
The usual way (i.e. dragging the file over the Documents or Download or whatever icon and letting go) always results in the file moving and appearing there, but for the case of Desktop, it gets sucked back out and disappears, no matter how many times I try with different movements and speeds.
Anyhow... I will move stuff to my Dropbox and then elsewhere.

It works. It moves the file onto my Desktop.

Yes, that works too.

Yes, I did. The same silly thing happens. But at least now I know it is only a specific thing that doesn't work. I will try again later to see if it is the same. Thanks for your help.
Sorry, I meant the left bar of the File Explorer, where there is Applications, Dropbox, Desktop, Downloads, Documents, etc...
Thats called the Finder Sidebar. Just drag the file over the Desktop icon and let go, the file should now appear on the Desktop.
That is exactly what I did, three times... At first it appears there, but then disappears. And I cannot even find it, where it's gone. This is the confusing thing that made me post this question...
