I bought an adonit jot pro around a year ago for my iPad (2017) and up until now it has been working great, but it has suddenly stopped working and now when I use it nothing happens. The iPad works fine and I can still use my finger but the pen has just broken.

The problem with the early versions of the Adonit Jot Pro was the ball and socket joint that touch the center, metal disc of the clear disc coming loose or wears enough to become disconnected.
You can try and contact Adonit directly, via their website, and see if they still have replacement discs.
OR
There is a YouTube video/fix using a piece of aluminium foil paper that you can try to see if you re-establish a conductive, electrical connection to the metal ball joint and disc, once again.
Go to YouTube and try these search terms and see what get for results.
