iPhone X photos will not upload to iPhoto

HI there,

Since I have had my iPhone X it will not upload any photos taken on it to iPhoto, screen shots or photos sent to me will upload but any photo that is taken on the phone itself comes up an error.

Video taken on the iPhone X will also upload, just not photos.

error message that comes up is

(some items cannot be added to your photo library because they may be an unrecognizable file format or the file may not contain valid data)

The it lists all the photos that could not be downloaded as "jpegvideocomplement_etc"

etc= looks like each file name, so if I try to upload 20 photos it will have 20 different combinations of letters and numbers in the etc position.

I tried to upload a screen shot, but it did not seem to work.

Can anyone help?
