Audio playback stuttering/skipping iOS11.4

I have an issue with my iPhone 7 where during audio playback, whether that be podcast, music or while on the phone, audio will drop out for approximately 1 second. After the dropout, the audio will stutter, much like a CD skipping. This is with the display off, waking the phone will change the issue to where the sound becomes very distorted and will repeat sections of what was just played.

I, and many others, have seen this issue since iOS 11.3. iOS 11.3.1 has not corrected it, nor has the recent release of iOS 11.4. From other people with the issue, closing the app in question, rebooting the phone, nor resetting the phone corrects the issue.

Please correct this as soon as possible as having dealt with it for two months is unacceptable.

Just a general observation; I'll update if something changes.

A few days ago I turned off "background App Refresh" in Settings -> General -> Background App Refresh. This has serious drawbacks, no doubt. But so far I have not had the problem when this feature is disabled. This dovetails with what I had figured it was since it started happening: background tasks locking up the CPU (or the sound subsystem) such that it can't continue to feed the output buffer fast enough, so the DSP repeats the last buffer (since it would just run in a continuous fast loop).

I reported the problem - with OS logs - at developer.apple.com in the bug reporter. There are instructions on how to generate the log, do it as soon as possible after the problem occurs (press both volume buttons + lock, you should feel phone vibrate; don't hold or the phone will reboot). After 10-20 minutes, sync the phone with your computer and a diagnostics file will be copied to your hard drive:

On a Mac it's here: ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/[Your_Device_Name]/sysdiagnose

On a PC it's here: C:\Users[Your_User_Name]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\Logs\CrashReporter\MobileDevice[Your_Device_Name]\

Seems like a good thing to know in general for any iOS bug you come across.

[Edit: switched the labels for Mac and PC locations, but that was probably obvious, lol]

I have a 6Plus and been having this issue with my Playlists for more than 6+ months - almost daily but randomly.

It happens when I am listening to my playlist music or videos on YouTube / News website - with or without headphones - even when listening through phone speakers.

Invariably happens when the screen display is off. The music at times get stuck as it used to when playing vinyl on my Dad's old gramophone. At times it simply goes into rapid stutter mode and at times the music simply dies along with the phone - and when I press the Home button hard, the phone would come back to life along with the music where it stopped / died.

I have presumably a new hardware, 9 months old, that Apple replaced when they messed up my display on the old phone as they did the $29 battery replacement last year. Still on 11.4 and scared to upgrade as I don't trust Apple blindly anymore.

Looking for workable solution - if something has been tried and truly worked.

Nothing new to add, but wanted to echo the experiences others are having (if you see something, say something, right?). I've had the audio stuttering issue with calls, Facetime, downloaded audio tracks via Music, streaming audio like Podcasts, Prime Music, Pandora, etc. This occurs regardless of output - via headphone jack (this is an iPhone SE), the lightning jack, AirPods, to a Bluetooth speaker - so it's clearly a problem with the processing and not a physical connection or the DAC. I've done hard resets, uninstalled and reinstalled apps, but haven't yet done a full restore so I'll give that a shot when I have time.

It's pretty hard to imagine that there aren't Apple employees wandering around the mothership wondering why their Lumineers playlist keeps going all herky-jerky. For the sake of your own sanity, walk down the hall and tell whoever works on this stuff to put down the Soylent and get to coding.

I do not have an issue with people having technical problems. I have an issue with the extra unnecessary commentary that means absolutely nothing. There are very few troubleshooting steps that can address certain issues. Simplified they are 1. Reboot. 2. Reset. 3. Restore to factory settings. Which ones of those has any of you tried? If you are restoring from a backup your backups may be corrupted. Which is why I suggested set up as new. You can try to go to settings>general>reset>reset all settings but I do not think that will fix this particular issue which is why I did not mention it. Which leaves only two solutions and that is what I gave you. This thread is full of mob mentality comments that have nothing to do with the problem. Comments that say "I tried this and this" is what I should have found here but I didn't see those. You came here for help we did not come to you. A full wipe and restore takes about 20 minutes. You could know in less than an hour that it does not skip or stutter anymore. You have the procedure that may solve the issue.
