compressor can't encode surround audio anymore, error

I always use Compressor for encoding Doly Digital 5.1 files. I create a surround group, select my audio files for every channel and open a 5.1 encoding setting. All went well for let's say, 10 years, but now, it stops before it even has encoded a thing. I see this error:

Failed: 3x *** -[AVAssetReaderAudioMixOutput initWithAudioTracks:audioSettings:] invalid parameter not satisfying: [audioTracks count] >= 1

So, is this a bug or is this something in my settings?

Having the exact same problem - I think the trouble started with the last update to 4.4.1

So far, nothing has helped - I am simply in a deadlock here. The ONE use case I had for compressor (5.1 Surround ac3 for DVD or Bluray) is now gone until it's fixed - I would try to call Apple, but I highly doubt I would get through to anyone who remotely knows what they're talking about, especially here in Germany.

I have the same problem. A couple work arounds I've discovered:

1. Create a Surround-Sound Group with AIFFs (as others have mentioned)

2. Use HandBrake (their 10-bit H.265 setting encodes surround sound and HDR

3. Create a custom QuickTime format - for mine I just use HEVC for the video and selected AAC 5.1 for the audio. Works on Apple TV but can't confirm anything beyond that.

Just got a distribution deal for my first micro-budget, DIY, indie movie with some tiny company... and ran into this problem because I want to provide my own tweaked Blu-Ray and DVD files for them to use.

Glancing through... I'll try the AIFFs and see if that works.

If not is there a way to downgrade to a previous version of compressor?for mew has

Or can someone make it for me who has old compressor? (Just the Surround AC3 file).

Oh, one more thing:

I use Final Cut X to store my mastered project on a timeline to add logo bumpers and arrange the mastered mono audio channels out of Pro Tools. When I export this using a blu-ray or DVD preset in Final Cut''s send to compressor, Apple Compressor does in fact generate an AC3 without errors along with the mpeg/h264 of the video. It's just that I don't trust that myself in designating channels in Final Cut so that the assigned tracks in the Final Cut timeline are going to the appropriate designated channels in Compressor. I guess I could make a 10 sec left, right, center type of test to make sure it is solid.

I had stacked the same issue with compressor version 4.4.1. And found another way to create AC3 surround audio without using Handbrake if you are a subscriber of Adobe Premiere.

I just needed to create surround ac.3 for Blu-ray, here’s what I did to create surround ac3.

1. Create a timeline sequence with 5.1 surround audio in Adobe Premiere. - change surround audio order here if you needed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-2jD1WDcys

2. Export QuickTime video with uncompressed 5.1 surround audio.

3. Import to Compressor and add Dolby Digital preset. And change the presets whatever you needed and export.

Since Adobe products not convenient to create Dolby Digital audio, I have to use Compressor still.

I was able to get ac.3 file in this procedure.

Hope this helps someones issue.

Still not fixed. I found a workaround if you only need the surround ac3 file.

Open each individual surround stem in QuickTime 7, copy and Add to Movie to build one multi-movie. Be sure to label each track correctly. Save as movie without picture. Drag this into Compressor and it will be recognized as a surround source and it will correctly export the surround ac3. I tested it and each channel goes to the correct speaker.
