Mic stopped working with the 11.3.1 update. Does 11.4 solve this issue?

It couldn’t be resolved over the phone... I booked an appointment at a Genius Bar, at first it looked like I might be charged to fix the phone, but I showed the guy 5-6 links to Websites highlighting the known issue and after checking the phone was in good condition with no visible damage, he just replaced it with a brand new phone... he told me the FireWire port was faulty (and it’s a known fault affecting lots of phones) that fault stops the Microphone working, even though the charger still worked. Mine broke directly after upgrading the software. I believe Apple do a postal service for the phone if you live too far from a store. They told me I could post it to them for the technician to look at.

Ditto - after 11.3, there were a small number of calls I could answer, but caller could not hear me. After 11.4 on all calls person at end of the line cannot hear me and the speaker phone button is grayed out. Also, voice memos is not working. Play and Record buttons are greyed out and I cannot play previously recorded memos. A CNET article claims apple may repair for free. May??? I didn't want the 11.4 update! I continued delaying it and then somehow, it installed without me knowing.

I first emailed an authorized apple repair shop because it was closer to home. The owner was very engaged but insisted that the issue was probably a loose connection on the mic chip to the board. I was explicit in my explanation of the mic problem starting immediately after install of 11.4, but he was unfazed. So my experience with an authorized apple repair store is the same as yours. I don't think he was being duplicitous, I just think the issue is rare and he was unaware. So as for the letter Apple sent to all its repair shops, apparently he didn't get that memo.

I'm headed to an appointment at the apple store this morning. Hope I have the same result as MacDazza.

I spent HOURS on the phone doing everything possible from restoring as a new phone and restoring with my back up. Nothing fixed it. My choice was to spend $350 to replace it. I went to my provider and upgraded. I now have a glorified iPod. This was a very frustrating experience with Apple. If the issue was “internal and always there but in the background- the update simply brought it to the forefront” then they sold me a faulty phone and should have replaced it. If the issue is software, they should have replaced it. It wasn’t right that I had to pay for a resolve.

I had the same issue from last week from the time i upgraded my iPhone 7plus to ios 11.4 and today I have submitted my feedback to apple.

Apple tech support over the phone and genius bar they offered me out of warranty replacement for $349+plus which I denied and I feel apple should replace or repair such devices for free because this is happening with the IOS 11.3 & 11.4

I've NEVER had a problem with my microphone UNTIL I upgraded to iOS 11.4, now I can't make voice call either on the phone or via plug in headphones... I will make call using Sony Bluetooth Headphone... This is since the iOS 11.4 update... Apple say they have no problems and its a coincidence that this is happening to lots of people... I've rebooted, restored the device to new and nothing fixes it. I now have to visit a genius bar... If this is an update problem that caused this I won't be happy....

I am also having this same issue with my iphone7. I did the iOS11.4 update and the next morning, my voice calls were not working. I can stream music from an online site and facebook videos play fine but I cannot record voice, siri doesn't work, and my speaker button when I try to make a call is grayed out. I tried the headphones that came with the phone and they are also not recognized. It charges just fine though. All my calls are now answered from my watch and that works fine. I have an appointment this Friday with Apple. I am hopeful they can fix this.
