It couldn’t be resolved over the phone... I booked an appointment at a Genius Bar, at first it looked like I might be charged to fix the phone, but I showed the guy 5-6 links to Websites highlighting the known issue and after checking the phone was in good condition with no visible damage, he just replaced it with a brand new phone... he told me the FireWire port was faulty (and it’s a known fault affecting lots of phones) that fault stops the Microphone working, even though the charger still worked. Mine broke directly after upgrading the software. I believe Apple do a postal service for the phone if you live too far from a store. They told me I could post it to them for the technician to look at.

Basically, Apple is CHEATING honest buyers like us. Their iOS has damaged our phones but they are not willing to accept and offer free assistance. While for some they have done a free replacement of the phone.

I have being purchasing Apple products as I believed they thought of the customer first. This experience has shattered my belief.

THIS IS IT! NEVER BUYING APPLE AGAIN UNLESS THEY REPAIR OR REPLACE MY PHONE FOR FREE!!! MORE SO I WILL DISCOURAGE ANYONE ELSE TO PURCHASE APPLE AS WELL.

So I'm finally following up on my July 7 trip to the Rochester NY Eastview Mall apple store. When the store informed me that Apple had withdrawn their offer to replace out of warranty phones for free, I remained in the store and called apple support. While on the phone for over an hour, my case was "escalated." The final person I spoke with was unable to authorize the store to replace my phone for free. Their reasoning was cut and dry: it was a hardware issue, not a software issue. Duh. Who knows what the reasoning is. As we all know, it is a hardware issue caused by a software issue - Apple software! To her credit, she did share a correct awareness of the issue that it is well documented. But she did not have the authority to circumvent Apple's change of mind. She did email me and asked me to follow up, which I thought was pretty good.

However, the Apple support person in the store continued to follow up on my progress. We had ranging discussions about the issue at hand and Apple in general. At one point, I stated "this isn't Apple. This isn't why I buy Apple products." At another point she said, i don't work here to repair devices, I work here to repair relationships." While still on the phone with apple support, she came over and said her manager had agreed to replace the phone for free. She had continued to advocate for me and her manager saw a sliver of opportunity.

I had scheduled the appointment several days before apple reneged on it's promise. I think that gave the manager the cover she needed when she gets interrogated about why she allowed a free replacement.

So cheers to the folks at the Eastview store and I hope their direct superiors can learn something from their integrity and courage.

However, I'm afraid that benefiting from good fortune and the good grace of a couple individuals isn't enough to

restore my opinion of Apple as a company. They go from being a company that I felt was well above the mark in terms of ethics to just another "devil I know."

So horrible. Mine is out of warranty as well, by a couple months. I am no where near an Apple store either, they asked me to restore it off a computer so I did that & still the same issue. They are calling me back at 4PM, I’m sure the result will be the same as they are saying they never heard of this problem happening before after the update. They did suggest I mail it to them at my cost for repairs that I would have to pay for so far. I am not accepting that. I bought a phone new, to use for emergencies I am alone with a baby all day & it’s my only means of communicating since I have no laptop and my iPad crapped out months ago. for it to crap out because of their software, I am so mad. Especially since I’ve been pressing remind me later for so **** long. I knew the update would make my phone slow( witch it did) it also takes up to 15 min for my phone to turn on now as well. It stayed on the Apple logo screen for almost 17 min yesterday.

The fact of the matter is it’s happened to so many users after a specific update that it is clearly an issue within the device itself yet they blame us. It’s completely unfair that we’re blamed for an issue that’s happened to many. I went to an apple store with this issue and at the same time there was another customer in the store with the same issue. Yet I had been told I’d have to go to my provider who I orginally got the phone from as I have had the phone for over a year. It’s been 3 weeks and I am yet to hear anything about my phone and basically being forced to upgrade. Apple should admit that there was an issue with iPhone 7 models which is why so many people globally have been affected by the very same issue!
