App Store app won’t update

I have the little red notification on my App Store and it’s because the actual App Store needs to update. But whenever I try to it just spins for a second then doesnt actually update. I’ve tried logging out of my Apple ID and then turning the phone on and off and that doesn’t work. Not sure what else to do. It’s a brand new phone.

That is not the same thing as the App Store. You can find the Apple Store app on your device and delete it by lightly touching the icon until they all start to wiggle. Then click on the "X" in the upper left-hand corner to delete it.

You may have figured this issue out, but after toying around with my new phone I realized all the apps that it said needed to be updated actually had a small blur dot under them in my home screen. Once I clicked on the app and opened each one up that blue dot went away then I was able to update the apps. It was the apple App Store and a few other stock apps

Yes... the app appears with a red circle containing "1" in upper right corner of the app. Clicking "update" goes through the normal motions of updating. When that process is completed (ostensibly, successfully), it again reverts to telling me to update! I've opened the app and encounter another "update" notice... I "update" again with the sea e result!

This is such an annoyance!

That's exactly the problem!

It's the App Store app that persistently refuses to indicate that the app (itself) has updated... despite being informed that it requires update. When I try to update the app... all proceeds like any normal update... but then, it reverts to telling me that it must be updated!

I'm not alone with this annoyance... but none of the solutions suggested above seem to work!

It's not the App Store app that has an update (that doesn't get updates like that), it's likely to be the Apple Store app as for previous posters on this thread. Have you tried deleting the correct app and redownloading it from the App Store ?

I have no desire to permanently delete the "App Store" app.

What I wish to accomplish is to put an end to my futile attempts to achieve a successful update to the app itself!

I'm informed that an update (for the app) exists; the update (ostensibly) proceeds to the very end; but then... I'm again informed that an update remains.

How can I achieve the "necessary" update to this app... and, in the process, eliminate the "1" that has taken up a permanent residence on the app's upper right corner?

I do not know how to delete that app (the one you show above with an apple printed on a blue shopping bag)!

Whether I try to update the app from this location or from the collection of all apps (stylized "A" on blue square"), the result is always the same: The update appears to proceed normally ("clock" progresses to the end).. but ends telling me to (again) UPDATE!

Ahh...! That did it!

Yes, I was able to find that app (labeled as "Apple Store," not "App store"... the one that refuses to successfully update).

The "Apple Store" app, however, did not indicate that an update was needed... but when I deleted it, the regular "App Store" app reverted to normal!

I do not know how the "Apple Store"app first appeared on my home screen... but, I see no reason why I'd want to reinstall it! Presumably, the "App Store" app will suffice!

Thank you! I think my problem is now resolved!

Go to the Apple Store icon on your device. It’s not the same thing as the App Store. You have to sign in and then you can update the Apple Store in the App Store. Unfortunately the tech that I called could not figure this out. I went round and round until I found an answer in this forum. Try deleting the app if it doesn’t work off of the wall, then you can download it again if you want it.

Just so you know, the Apple Store app, is for shopping for Apple Products, and seeing specific Apple offerings like Learning Sessions at your local Apple Store. The App Store is for finding and purchasing Apps for your iOS device. So, you certainly may not need it, but one does not replace the other. They are entirely separate apps that you would use for completely different purposes. Personally, I removed the Apple Store app long ago. I never used it.... 🙂

They aren't linked, they are two separate apps with separate functions - the only slight link is that the App Store app was used to download the Apple Store app and updates to it, in the same way as for any other app that you download.

Why else would the mere deletion of "Apple Store" app allow the "App Store" app to survive an update!

The update wasn't for the App Store app (it doesn't get updates except via iOS updates), it was for the Apple Store app.
