Pages, Master Page, Insert Footer?

Is there a way to insert a footer into a Pages page layout master page?

If the header/footer items are selected in the Document panel, and the Document body is unchecked to allow you to convert the Document to Layout format, then the header/footer fields tag along. Each master document page inherits the header/footer fields, but this may not appear to be the case when in Master document edit mode — where the header/footer fields do not appear.

When saved as a new template, and subsequently used as the template basis for a new document, I observe that the header/footer fields are present in the master page, and after I insert a new page from the master.

Pages 7.0.1 and High Sierra 10.13.4 (fully updated).

I am wondering if you add that text to the footer just before you create a new master page, and then save it as a template.

I was able to get this to work. They still don't appear on the master page, but they do appear on the added new page. I will see if I can make this work in my existing pages documents. Thanks.

Hi Bruce,

"Header" and "Footer"are short for "running header" and "running footer".

A 'running header' is a set line or block of text, placed near the top of the page, that is repeated on every page (or on every recto page or every verso page) through a section of the document. The running header may also have calculated content, such as a page number, section number or page count

As such, the header is attached to the section, not to an individual page or a master page. In terms of "master", the header can be thought of as a 'master object' carried on, but not part of, every page of a section or on the left or right pages of facing pairs.

A "master page" could be thought of as a 'fixed background' carried on every page of a section.

Regards,

Barry

I see this too, but I want to place text in a master page footer so when I add a new page from the master page that text appears. I see no way to do that.
