iPad Pro iBooks Apple Pencil icon doesn't appear

Apple Pencil icon doesn't appear in iBooks. I'm using iPad Pro with IOS 11.4. I can remember it used to appear in top right-hand in iBooks a few months ago(with earlier IOS version) because I was able to write and draw on pdfs in iBooks using Apple Pencil (I still have few pdfs with my hand written notes). Does anyone know what happened or how to get apple Pencil back in iBooks? My guess is the feature has been removed by Apple.

Many changes to iBooks from quite awhile, ago.

Apple removed that feature, I believe.

You will need to find either a third party notes/writing apps that support PDFs and the Apple Pencil and/or find third party PDF apps that support the Apple Pencil and this PDF markup feature.

Further update. I noticed that Apple pencil icon sometimes appears in iBooks when opening PDFs. However, this is not consistent behaviour. I can open a PDF and see the Apple pencil icon and then close the re-open the same PDF and the pencil icon disappears. I have checked that pencil stays paired in Bluetooth, so it's not because of a dropped connection. The behaviour seems to be unpredictable. Possible bug?

Thank you. Yes, It seems most likely that Apple Pencil has been removed from iBooks. Unfortunately, third party apps won't work with pdfs within iBooks. It's a pity!
