iMovie cannot create file

Hi

I could always create a file from a iMovie project, but now it does not work anymore. I am getting the message "Exporting My Movie has failed", then: "The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.Compressor.CompressorKit.ErrorDomain error -1.)".

I have tried everything, spending hours, including changing the compression settings. I do not know if this is a coincidence, I just updated Sierra.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Here are the links to some threads that show some solutions that have worked for some but not for others:

Hopefully there is something in the above links that will be of help to you.

Here are some other things you can try:

Open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys, and selecting to delete preferences in the box that appears.

Update to current iMovie 10.1.9, or reinstall iMovie if you already have updated.

You also can try booting up in a new user account and see if that solves it. For this purpose you can use the Guest account on your Mac, or create a new user account from System Preferences/Users and Groups.

Hi Rich

I have tried all that you proposed, and eventually I could export to file by creating a new user account. While I am happy that I could export to file, that was a huge work, from transferring the files with dropbox to redoing the whole movie.

I went then back to my primary account and tried again. Something interesting happened. Again, I could not generate the file from that project. I then created another project with different videos, and the file was successfully created! So I thought the problem could be the project itself. I have done a new project using the same media material, but the file could not be created. So I am still very confused and concerned that this would happened again.

Does this story tell you anything about the possible cause of the problem, and how to fix it?

Many many thanks!

Michele
