Compatible External Hard Drives/ Storage with High Sierra 10.13.4

Hi! I recently upgraded my 2011 Macbook Pro 17" to High Sierra 10.13.4 and my IOmega 2 TB external hard drive no longer loads on my desktop. How can I fix this issue, or do I have to purchase a newer external drive? Any recommendations for a stable external hard drive/ storage?

Thanks so much!

Do you have external HDs set to be visible on the Desktop In the Finder Preferences?

If you do and it doesn't show up does it show up in Disk Utility.

Also boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and check to see if it there.

As Barney said, if the external HDs are formatted properly there is nothing that will cause them to not be seen and used by the macOS unless they are failing. How are your EHDs formatted. The should be formatted like this:

If any software came with the external HDs are you using it? If so uninstall that software. It's not needed and can cause issues with later macOS systems.

Download and run Etrecheck. Copy and paste the results into your reply. I have this same problem as well. I have a WD My Book that was showing up on the Sidebar of my Finder. I updated to High Sierra 10.13.5 and not it not showing up in Finder. It does show up in Disk Utility.

If you select the drive in Disk Utility, what does it say for Partition Map?

If it says "master boot record," you never formatted the drive for your Mac.

If so, and you installed the bundled crapware that came on the drive, it now doesn't work and is preventing the OS from mounting the disk.
