Hi, I have a new WD My Passport that i have partitioned and formated- Half for time machine (os x journaled), half for general use (fat32). It is saying "owner disabled" . It seems to work fine - but will this effect other functions?. How do I enable ownership?
As long as owners are enabled on the Time machine partition, Time machine will have no problems.
Owners is mainly a MacOS and Linux concept, although I suppose it could apply to MS-DOS FAT32 as well.
If you want to keep track of MacOS User ownership, why did you format as FAT-32?
select the Volume in the Finder.
Finder > File > Getinfo
if the checkbox at the very bottom is checked, you can UN-check it, and Future files you add will have Ownership/Permissions tracked.
If there is no such checkbox it is likely that FAT-32 does not support Ownership/Permissions.
Owners enabled/disabled in on a Volume basis.
